those stocks are beautiful. the 308 will be a great antelope gun. army snipers have used the 308. i love the light recoil and variety of factory ammo for thr 308. fix it and go shoot some critters with it.

Premier® Scirocco™ Bonded

yrdsmz100 200 300 400 500

180 SSB 2700 2522 2351 2186 2028 1878

Premier® Scirocco™ Bonded
180 SSB 2980 2793 2614 2442 2276 2116

Premier® Scirocco™ Bonded - Power Level III
180 SSB 32503048 2856 2672 2495 2325

The top is 3006. Cabelas $36
The middle 300 WSM. Cabelas $40
The bottom 300 Ultra Mag. Cabelas $52

Sighted in at 200 yard zero there is no more than four inches difference between the three.

All are very lethal beyond 300 yrds.

300UM uses almost 3 times as much powder as 3006.

Default Mossberg stock

Try Boyd's gun stocks or Richard's microfit gun stocks....Both have a really nice selection for Mossberg rifles and they are not expensiveness they start at $98 and go to $250....

I think your gunsmith is more interested in selling you a new gun! As others have said there are many after market stocks out there, so there's no reason to retire a good gun! That said, you also have an excellent excuse to get another gun! The calibers mentioned are all good choices, it's just going to be up to personal preference. As for the 7 MM RM ruining meat, any of the calibers mentioned can ruin just as much meat as the 7 MM if you go for the shoulder shot. Go for the boiler room and you waste very little if any good meat!
