Gunsmith Costs?

I'm not looking to have any gun work done, but was just curious, how much does a gunsmith charge for their labor? Usually by the hour, job? Just a ballpark figure would be good.

RE: Gunsmith Costs?

Most of the ones I have dealt with was on a piece work basis. As much as anything because they keep getting interupted by customers coming in during the day .

I do a lot of my own gunsmithing, but when something that comes up is beyond my ability I will go to the smith. From what I have seen most smiths have rate chart for most of the services they perform. I think you'll find that the more experienced and knowledgable a smith is the higher his rates will be.

RE: Gunsmith Costs?

The gunsmith I use to work for charged a set price for any job he did,but that was 25 years ago. It all depends on the smith...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

id have to agree most have a set price for most jobs...sure if your guns a pain in the rear he might hit you harder...and some may charge by labor but really that doesnt fit the job like bluing and things like that where sometimes he works on 20 guns at one time..all depends...usally its by the job from what ive seen
