25-06 performance ?

I was looking at a Remington 700 BDL in 25-06 and was wondering if anyone had any experience using them on for deer and how are they on
accuracy and does it have enough knock down power?

RE: 25-06 performance ?

Yes they have plenty of power. I was going to get one but i got into bear hunting so i needed something a little bigger. It would have worked fine on PA bears but i just wanted to know i had enough power if i came across a big bear so i got a 300 WSM.

I am looking into the same caliber and everything I read was good.

I've used 25-06 on deer and they usually drop instantly at the shot with a stiff load topped with nosler ballistic tips. This round is good to 400+ yards.

A 25-06 Rem will cover you in just about any deer size and smaller shooting situation you can get into. With good bullets and a good shooter you can confidently take black bear and elk. It is also a devasting varmit cartridge out to 500 yards.

Does Remington offer the 700 BDL in 25-06? I didn't think so but whatever gun you select, in my experience, longer barrel is better. faster twist is better. good trigger is a must.

A 25-06 makes a darn good long range western lope, deer, and yote rifle.

I have a BDL in 25-06 and have shot 10-12 deer with it with no troubles ever. It has plenty of power and is a flat shooter. You will be very pleased.

We have one in a Ruger #1 and you can cover three shoots with a quarter at 100 yards. It is a excellent long range gun.

The 25/06 is one of the magic calibers. It shoots much better than it should. 25/06s tend to be very accurate. It is an excellent choice for caribou and smaller game.

I have a friend that uses one for hunting powerlines ans he drops deer at 400+ yards all the time. Sighted in 4'' high at 300 yards.

Wonder why they don't list it on their website? http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_BDL_specs.asp

Good luck with the 25. You're gonna love it.

It will kill any elk ,black bear or moose that ever walked as well.My son took a 3pt bull elk at over 400 yards this fall with a .25-06 using my handloads 120gr HP Hornady/Win cases/Fed Mag primer and 54gr of H4831SC.Complete penetration taking out a rib entering and another exiting with the animal dropping within 100yards of being hit.A black bear one shot last spring and a lot of mulies and WT deer over the past 3 years. It behaves like a .270 with the above load and cloverleafs 3 shot groups..................hard to find fault............Harold

If I could ever make up my mind on what type round I want the 25-06 is going to be one of my next cartridges. Everything I've read on this caliber says in reference to deer size game or smaller if you can see it you can kill it. Of course the accuracy of the shooter and rifle will play a large part in this.

25/06 is my very favorite all around caliber. I have 4 700's--2 bdl's, a cdl that i haven't scoped yet, and a Mountain Rifle that i love dearly. I have probably kileed 70 or 80 whitetails with a 25. As everyone else here has mentioned, they are deadly accurate and performance is certainly terminal. One of the all time greats in my opinion.

I've killed about a dozen deer with my 25-06. I'l echo what's already been said. Plenty of power, flat shooting, accurate, pleasant to shoot... etc. Get it you won't be disappointed.

i've gotten the best results using heavier bullets for hunting. 120 rem corelokts, 117 hornadys, 120 federal fusions.

In 1990 the Remington 700 Classicwaschambered in25-06 Rem.The 700 Classicwas and still is my favoritebolt action rifle. I read a lot of goodthings about the 25-06 and since it was available in my favorite rifle I bought one. Well kind of, I wasn't old enough to buy it. I had to havemy mom or dad (I can'tremember which one)buy it for me.:) In 1997I tradedit for the 700 Classic that year, the 280 Rem. I wanted something a little heavier. At the time I couldn't afford the280 without selling the 25-06. I don't regret doing it. Ireally like the 280.I've shot one deer with it.My 25-06did shoot really well. It would group under an inch at 100 yards with 120 gr. Remington Core Lokt ammo. That's whatI used forhunting deer with it. I never shot a deer withit.I shot 100 gr. Remington Core Lokts and 90 gr.Winchester Power Points (I think that's what they were called). They all shot very well. I don't think I ever shot any ammo in it that wouldn't shootan inch or better. It was definitely a shooter (as is my 280). I'd recommend bothcartridges.

As far as I know they haven't offered the 25-06 in the last few years. On the other hand,I have fired a tikka t-3 in 25-06,and it was very accurate for a factory rifle.

a 25/06 is a great gun for big game. But if you get one make sure that you get the older models of the model 700. The new 700s are pieces of crap. Butits still a really great caliber.

I have a Ruger M-77 chambered in 25-06, I love it.
Before you buy it you could check the ballistics/energy on Remingtons webpage. Remington has a page that will let you compare two rounds head-to-head. I just compared the 270-winchester to the 25-06.

good luck hunting

25-06 is outstanding. Can't say enough about this cartridge. Fast, flat, accurate and packsenough punch when it arrives. I did a lot of reading and asking around before I actually bought one and I haven't been disappointed one bit. I have yet to need a 2nd shot to bring anything down and the majority of animals I've shot with it have dropped where they stood.

The .25/'06 is a .257 Roberts on steroids, or a slightly toned-down .257 Weatherby Magnum. Will it kill deer? Well, I recon! As for accuracy, it is right in there with the most accurate cartridges around. With a 120-grain bullet, it will do anything the .270 Winchester will do using 130-grain bullets.

In the Ruger No. 1V .25/'06 I used to have, one of the most accurate loads I developped used Norma MRP powder and shot a 117-grain Sierra Gameking at 3180 FPS @ 10' from the muzzle-very close to 3200 FPS. In addition to being very accurate, this load did NOT damage brass at all. But since it was "slightly" over what the book said was a maximum load, I cut it back a little. Talk about killing deer-they usually disappeared from view before I could recover the rifle from its' (slight) recoil-the deer always went straight DOWN where they were standing!

25-06 accurate ? Yes very accurate indeed…. This is a photo of my latest load in my Sako 75 with 100 gr. Nosler Bt. 4 shots at 100 metres ( 110 yards or so).
I really like my 25-06 !
