10/22 Barrels
 

I picked up a 10/22 Carbine this weekend. I'd like to turn it into a target rifle. I've noticed there are several aftermarket manufacturers of 10/22 barrels.

Which would be recommended? Volquartsen, Tactical Solutions, Green Mountain, Butler Creek, Magnum Research, Clark Custom, or Shilen?

I was kind of leaning towards Green Mountain.

You have the same scope that I have on my Savage 93R. I like!

cm3366 speaks truth. In my experience,lilja makes the most accurate .22 rimfire barrels. I do have to state that I buy the blanks and machine them. I'm betting that you want a drop-in as in regular factory clamp in.

I've built 5 10/22's and have a bunch pending completion now. I've tried a few bbls and prefer the Whistle Pig ones. For the money and if you're not thinking serious competition, Green Mt is good, very good, for the money.
Now, that all said...if you're to get into this 10/22 kick, go to www.Rimfirecentral.com Search, read, search, read, etc... It's ALL been asked there.
I'd also suggest thinking about what you want out of your completed 10/22. Looks, performance, both? Is it for general plinking, informal target use or competitive use? After you decide, decide what you are willing/able to spend on it. Don't build thinking resale, it's not there on these to amny ppl's surprise and disgust. When you've gotten result and cost decided on, start looking. You'll be tempted and that can easily lead to spending more and in the end running out of $ or spending way more than planned for. Could be good, could be bad. You can easily spend more on a single part (bbl, trigger, stock) than you originally paid for the gun.

This will be for general target shooting and plinking. I don't want to spend too much--just yet. I may build a more expensive one if I enjoy it. I need to get some other shotguns and a larger caliber rifle before I revisit 10/22s after this project.

Green Mt is proberly your best bet then. Avoid Butler Creek - (check RFC for a lot on this). I once said no more 10/22's. Got 6 now with 4 more awiting completion and at least two more planned after that.
