browning bar accuracey
I bought a browning bar 30-06 made in 1972 last year
I decided to put a scope on it this year and hunt with it I put a ziess 3x9x40 conquest scopewith leoupold 1 piece base and rings on it now the question got it on the paper at 100 yds i can shoot one 4 shot group and it will cut the same hole then i can shoot another 4 shot group and it will be all over the place i tried shooting twice the allowing the barrel to cool for a bit still first four or five shots will cut the same holethen it goes all to hell even when it cuts the same hole it may be high, low, left or right never the same place is there anything with the browning bar that can make it do this any help would be a great Thanks, Russell Moore |

Always start with the basics and work up from there. First check all screws to insure they are tight. Then if neccecary,check forend bedding as 2 piece stocked rifles are sometimes more persnickety due to different type bedding. Then if needed,go deeper and don't rule ANYTHING out until you check.

You may want to check the foreend and make sure it has a little play when contacting the receiver. A foreeend that is too tight against the receiver can cause that problem.

Has the copper fouling ever been removed from the bbl.? I don't mean just normal cleaning .Thats an older fire arm and may need some special attention.You can get funny consistency from a copper fouled bbl. and yes it can go from group to group funny.
I always thought the older triggers were much better than todays , but ya never know , they can always be worked on to make them better. |

when i am shooting the gun i have it locked in a vise would the preasure on the side of the forearm maybe have something to do with my problem
and when i say it is erratic I mean it will jump 8 to 10 inches sometime up, down, left, or right i have not scrubbed the barrel i plan on doing it tonight with a wire brush and some sweets 7.62 cleaner i hope i get this figured out soon but right now the browing is not holding a light to the 7mm-08 remington 700 titanium i have |

try sandbags to shoot off of.
