what range should i zero at?
 

I have a .270 and was wondering what yardage i should zero at to be only a inch or two high at 100yds? because most of my shots will be under 100yds. any advise would be appreciated

I just set mine to be an inch high at 100 yards, since you are generally shooting a hair low at 50 yards with a .270. The Remington Shoot program that I have says that a 100 yard zero will leave you at .17 inch low at 50 yards.

I'd site it in at 100 and call it good from 0 to 200. You'd be less than an inch low at 50 and good out to any distance i've ever seen in WV.

I sighted my 270win model 700 Remington rifle in at 100 yards. Two inches higher than POA with 130gr loads. This put me less than a hair low at 200 yards. I know cuz I tested it at 200 yards.

I think a 50 yard zero will be spot on at 100 yards.

thanks for the replies the reason i asked the question was that i sighted it in at 25 like i always did my 30 06 and it was about 1-2 in high at 50 and about 3-4in high at 100 so i was thinking i need to go back to the range and zero at 50 to make it closer at 100. I know should just sight in at 100 but i like closer ranges when sighting in just for a confidence builder the once zeroed i like to practice out to 100-200 yds

If you have te ability to shoot 100 yds where you sight in, sight it in about 1" high at 100. At the 100 yd range, you can make the minor adjustments you probably wouldn't notice at 50 yds. Have fun - shoot safe.

I zero my .270's to be +4@100which makes them+4 @ 200, and -3 @ 300. But this zero is for use in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado, where shots can be from 30 yards to 400 or so.

For your uses, I would zero dead on at 200 yards. Then your maximum POI height above the line of sight will never be more than 2" all the way from 25 yards out to 250 yards or so. This means on deer-size game you can aim right at the spot you want the bullet to strike out to 250 yards.....

Regardless of where your bullet strikes at 25 or 50 yards, ALWAYS shoot confirming shots at as far a distance as you have at your range, (200 or 300 yards)because a point of impact that seems right on close in, especially for windage,can be several inches or more off to the right or left, and at the short ranges this deflection will not show up!

I zeromy 270in 1 inch high at 100yds. They are dead on at 50 and dead on at 200 and 7 low at 300. so out to 250 yds it's point and shoot.
