ATF wants you to actually have a storefront nowadays. To be perfectly honest gun and ammo business is a royal painand you need something else to eek out a living. People will constantly nickel and dime you to death. Remember you have to compete with Gander ,Cabelas,Bass Pro, Dicks,Sportsmans Warehouse etc etc etc not to mention local well established shops. All have better buying power and can sell at your cost or lower in most cases unless you're fortunate to have deep pockets to make a good deal with the manufactuor direct.
There is a decent profit to be made buying and selling used guns but then you really must know your products and be willing and able to sit on something until you can get your price. |

Ruddy duck said it perfectly! I'd also add that having a business plan and proberly a deceet laywer and CPA versed in this stuff is a good idea also.

Think real hard about an FFL. You could sell crack or live off of welfare and get a whole lot more repect and government support.
No, just kidding I must say that our years in the gun business were great, but hard work. Could be a good living, but if you like to hunt not the best choice for a job. 12 hours a day at the worst time of the year. I wanted to take over the family business but had a job with good pay and benifits, can your area support your way of life? If you do get into the business, think big, never stop growing. Learn the laws, and keep records beyond what is required. As said before get a good lawyer and CPA. Don't sell ANYTHING you would not use I don't care what the profit margin is. And remember I told you this, you are not in competition with the big stores, the only thing they can offer is price, you can offer customer service, knowledge, and truefriendship. |
