Rem 11-87 20g Loud safety
My wifes uncle purchased a 20 gauge Rem 11-87 for deer hunting this season and is getting ready to break in the barrel and sight itin as well.I spoke with him on the phone tonight and he said the safety seems pretty loud when switching to fire. For those that have the 11-87, is thereanything he can do to reduce the noise the safety makes (such as workingthe safety on and off to smooth it or can he usesomekind of lube to quiet it down?(Hesaid it is more quiet to place a finger on one side and thumb on the other to move it slowly, but that may not always be an option while hunting.)
Also, when breaking inthe rifled barrel, is itworth the time to take off the barreltostart the rod from the breech endaftereach shot or isitO.K. to just leave the gun together and run therod from the muzzle? Thanks for your thoughts, J |
RE: Rem 11-87 20g Loud safety
I use the two finger method because both my 1187 and 870 12 gauges are loud. It dosen't take me any longer do do it the 2 finger way vs. just pushing it off safety. My safety doesn't come off until I'm shouldered ready to pull the trigger. I use a $12 bore snake and leave the barrel on. Drop it through the reciever and pull out through the business end. I think pulling the barrel off between shots would take you forever to site in. Thats just my opinion. Good luck

RE: Rem 11-87 20g Loud safety
Thanks for the info sjsfire. I was thinking about the bore snake as a possiblity, but didn't know how dirty it would get when breaking in a barrel; having to use it 10-20 times before being able to wash it and let it dry. But I would prefer it over taking the gun apart after each shot.
