Do you think a mossberg 500 rifled barrel shotgun ,$250 dicks special, can make a 150 or 200 yard shot? on a whitetail.

Thats type of gun I use never had to shoot a deer that far. Its a good gun never had any trouble with it.

Not saying that it couldn't be done -but a Mossy 500 would definately not be my 1st choice to do that. Or 2nd, or 3rd or 4th or 5th or 6th or 7th or 8th or 9th or even 10th.

I'm pretty confident of my Moss 500 slug gun to a 100 tops.

If you pay that much for a rifled barell youre getting hosed. I bought a brand new mossber 500 rifled barell with scoupe mount for $150.00

I believe he said it was for a shotgun. I think with a scope and the right shells 150 is not out of the question but 200 yds, I don't know. I brought my old 500 out of retirement this year. Put a Nikon 2x7x32 Pro Staff on it and plan on shooting LightField Hybryd Sabots. Once sighted in I'd feel comfortable with a 150 yard shot max.

You haven't even shot it yet, but say once you do and it is sighted in you will feel comfortable to 150? Isn't that counting chickens before they bust out of their shells?

What if the gun/barrel doesn't like those Lightfields?

What if the Lightfields are too fast for the rifling?

Uncle Matt, Try to pay attention this time..... 1. I said I took the 500 out of retirement,of courseI've shot this gun before. I've had it for over 20 years.

2. If the 500 doesn't shoot the Lightfields as well as I hope then I'll shoot the Remington copper solids I used to. I've taken deer out to 125 yards and 137 yards with this combination.

3. What if the lightfields are too fast for the rifling? See the first sentence of #2 response.

I never "count my chickens" first. I've been deer hunting for 37 years. I shoot my slug guns through out the year testing different slugs. It's called cofidence when you pull the trigger....

I use a Mossberg 500, but I don't think I would be confident at that distance. 150 yards would be my outerlimit personally and I try to keep it to 100 yards. Fortunately, almost all of my shots are less than 50 yards. Patience is a wonderful thing.

I recomend the Rottweil Brenneke Slug 3in Mag. Make sure you read on the recall before buying them.Thats allI shoot through my mossberg 500, very accurate slug. But youdbemore accurate going with a high end 20 gauge auto. but look at spending atleast $300.00+ for a highend 20 guage.
