RE: Savage 111
i had the 111gl in .270 once. it was real accurate and was a very nice rifle. i sold it to get my .243 but am looking at getting another one. despite what some people say, this is a great rifle for the money.

You won't go wrong with the Savage 111. I have the 111GCNS (wood stock) in .30-06. After correcting a problem that was my fault, it will shoot honest sub-MOA groups with Winchester 150gr Power-Points. The new detachable magazine is very well done, the Accu-Trigger is great, and accuracy with factory loads is as well as I'd expect it to be with carefully worked up handloads. IMO, there is no better rifle for the money, and it's better than some rifles costing $100-200 more.
It's a good choice.

Accurate gun, good price, safe, price is a good value. DO NOT buy scope/gun package that is sold a major retailers, put a better $200ish Nikon/leupold at a minimum, leupold/redfield mounts, and the new gun experience will be a pleasure. The Simmons that comes in that package will probably be bad new, no joke.
The savage is a great value.
