RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
Browning BPS is what I have shot for last 20 years for everthing.
usually run a couple cases of #6 high brass for doves each year and buckshot for deer.never had a problem. not to say the others arn't ok also. bought me a new mossberg 3 1/3 ultra-mag a 4 years ago and had nothing but trouble.sent it back to the factory two times, each time they said they had it fixed.they never got it fixed,it would shoot the shell in the barril and not reload a live round. Got rid of it and went back to my old BPS. thats mt two cents, there are 98 more!! I am not a hunter I am a whitetail population reduction specialest remember keep your back to the sun, your knife sharp, and your powder dry. |
RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
well... 870's have a good rep but i've never seen them perform that well. ithaca's aren't bad but my cuzin has had his broken before and had to get it fixed. mossberg 500's are just ummmm. "cheap" that leaves teh browning bps, benelli nova, and the winchester 1300. i honestly believe that the winchester 1300 is the MOST OVERLOOKED pump shotgun today. i own one and love it. its only had on little incident. i was shooting federal 3" magnum slugs out of it and in the tube chamber a shell popped out and jammed it up. what i learned... 2 3/4 kick much less and perform just as well. the browning bps well.... ITS A BROWNING nuff said. i dont know much about the benelli nova but ive heard its good but i think it looks ugly probably is a good gun though.

I've got another vote for BPS. But, I'm a lefty and I like the top mounted safety and the bottom ejection. You won't find a more solidly built shotgun.

RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
personally I prefer the Remington 870 over the browning BPS ,I have owned both of them .I didn't like the balance of the browning , just didn't fit that well .

RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
For a pump gun, I like the Winchester 1300 best. I had an 870 and while OK, it didn't overly impress me compared to the 1300. One pump gun that I would pass on is the Beneli Nova. I handled one the other day at a sporting goods store and wasn't impressed at all. That forearm rattled almost as bad as the Mossbergs, and it didn't feel that great in my hands either. To be very honest with you, it felt very cheaply made to me. The 1300 with it's recoil assisted pump action, is almost as fast as an semi-auto. That would be my pick of the liter!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
I have noticed that a lot of preference for shotguns has to do with "fit". If the gun doesn't fit you, you're less likely to shoot it well. The BPS fits me well.

"The 1300 with it's recoil assisted pump action, is almost as fast as an semi-auto. "
That was indeed an interesting feature; my Win 1200 Defender would indeed throw back the bolt/eject the shells on it's own even with trap loads. |
RE: 12 Guage pumps???????????
Ithaca makes a fine pump gun and the new ones are chamberef for the longer shells they are light weight and fast to the shoulder i own 9 mod 37's never had a bit of trouble the only thing i don't like is the single slide rail like hk45 said either ithaca or rem. can't go wrong either way
