I'm looking to purchase a rifle in the 7mm STW caliber and would like to know if anyone knows a manufacturer of rifle in this caliber?

I actually know a custom gunsmith that has a brand new custom built stw with a h&r thumbhole stock, match grade barrel, remington action etc. He can give you all the specs, but I am here to tell you it's the nicest rifle I think I have ever seen. If you want contact info let me know.

Reminton ,Winchester , Blaser 93 there are alot of makers that still chamber for this round.You could have a 7mm rem mag rechambered to
7 mm STW . Won't cost a whole lot either. Plenty of 7 mm mags on the market.

I own a Winchester Model 70 in 7mm Rem Mag. What would it entail to have 7mm Rem Mag rechambered to 7mm STW? I was hoping o find it in Savage with an accu-trigger if possible.

Question. Am I really gaining anything by going from 7mm Rem Mag to 7mm STW? I've been told that it's an EXTREMELY better round than my 7mm Rem Mag. If I'm not gaining much from the transition then I might as well keep what I have.

Your looking at about 200 fps more than out of your rem. mag

lots of gunsmiths will rechamber your barrel to the shooting times westerner.

The STW is about equal with the 7mm Rem ultra mag. You can use 8mm remington brass to make 7 stw or buy factory 7mm stw ammo. I would look into the 7 ultra mag if you do not plan on reloading. I don't know what stores are like in your area but here in utah it seems the 7 ultra mag ammo is more available.

It's very easy to rechamber 7mm rem mag to 7mm stw as long as reciever/magizine is long enough. Why not go all the way to 7mm rum? Same head size,no belt,more powder capacity. Ruger was chambering #1s for stw for a lil while but quit. I think the cartridge is dying and the rum MIGHT be around a lil while longer-or at least case availability.

I don't think any of the mainstream companies chamber this round nowadays. The Ultramags have kinda ended that. 2 years ago I found a brand new Remington Sendero SF in a STW, still in the box on gunsamerica.com. Might want to keep tabs on that site. Remington quit chambering it in production rifles in 2002 I believe, and savage and winchester a year or so later.Not sure about any other companies, 116buck mentioned Sako, I haven't looked into those lately.

But yea, if you decide to rechamber a regular 7 mag, at least get a 26" barrel. You'll be burning +/-80 or so grains of powder, you'll need it to get the velocities a STW is capable of.

I love mine in that Stainless Sendero. A little heavy, but it's my powerline/field gun, and the truck usually ain't far away :).

Actually,the rum has advantage over stw same as stw has over 7mm rem. With pressures being equal,the rum gets the nod on velocity but you are going to burn EVEN MORE powder. The rem 7mm,300 win,338 win,8mm rem,7mm stw all have case head size of .532 while rum is .537 but the rum is full width whereas the stw is standard thickness of 300 winwith belt. They are correct that you need longer barrel with stw or rum with bare mininum of 26" with 28"-30" being preferable. The question you should ask yourself is how often you'll really need the extra speed vs longer,heavier,unhandy for most hunting unless you want a specialized beanfield rifle. As it is,the 7mm rem is versatle enough most hunting situations without the ungainly long barrel.

Thanks to all for the responses. I mainly wanted something with some UUMPH for when I went out to play the 500yd targets at the 1,000 yd range. I've been looking for something affordable and extremely flat shooting and figured that the 7mm STW was the ticket. I've been "prodded" to buy a .300 Ultra but 7 is my favorite number and I just love 7mm rifles.

The 7mm Rem Mag I currently own is my corn / beanfield rifle and my Marlin 1894SS is my brush and woods gun. I play with my Savage 10FP (.308) out at the range, but like I stated I just want something with a bit more Umph.

I told my wife I was thinking about rechambering the Model 70 and she said "Didin't you say they don't make the model 70's any more?" and I said "Correct." Then she said "Well you won't be rechambering THAT rifle. I suggest you find something else to play with and leave that one in it's original condition." At that point I said a quiet "Thank You" to the man above for the green light from my wife to by yet ANOTHER rifle."

Hmmm, perhaps a Tikka T3 in 7mm RUM.

Sako and remington don't chamber it anymore. I have a Sako 75 in STW. It has alot of potential. I shoot a 160gr Accubond at 3200fps with RL25. If you really want one, I would just get a RUM. Alot of umph

As someone that has owned all three,I can assure you that the 7mmRUM has a much smaller advantage over the 7mmstw,than the 7mmstw has over the 7mmremmag.My 7mmstw rifles add between 200fps and 300fps over the 7mmremmag,while the 7mmRUM adds only another 50fps to 100fps.I personally prefer the 7mmstw over the other two,but only with a barrel at least 26" long.

Tikka doen't make a T3 7mm Ultra Mag. Neither does Savage. Man, I'm bummed out now.

Check out GunBroker, there is a pretty sweet Ruger #1 in STW for sale right now. I thought about buying it, but I don't really have any reason...

I can't blame you at all on that one. I have bought a few sight unseen, but they were new...used would be a different story.
