WTB short barrel carbine deer rifle
I would love to buy a short barrell carbine deer rifle. I am not sure if I am even pronouncing the thing right, but I have read a few articles about people hunting with them. I think they are mostly in .30 something calibers. They seem to be good for stalking and tracking because you can whip them around quickly in the woods. Let me know what you all come up with, THANKS

Go to gunbroker or auction arms and do a search for Remington 7600 carbine, fin one in 30-06 or .308 and you would be set.

Ive found that youth gun work well for me when im hunting in thick brush. They are very short and the light weight makes them easy to move around in the woods.

The Deerfield looks interesting. $625 Hmmmm. I'm interested, but that price sounds out of reach for this carbine...

You can find yourself a Marlin lever gun in 44cal cheaper than that. Or an Winchester or Malin in 30.30 or .35. I believe this is what your looking for. Check the classifeds at Graybeardoudoors and 24hourcampfire as well as keeping an eye on this one. I'm betting a Marlin .44 will show up soon.

No doubt those pieces you mention would do the trick. Its the idea of the M-1 carbine-like semi-auto that is drawing my attention and interest in the purchase of the Ruger 99/44 Deerfield. I guess, too, that I'll hold out until I find one NIB at a fair price.

I use a Winchester Model 70 "Short Action Carbine" in .308. It is a "post 64" model, but handles and shoots well. Sweet rig, I just love it, expect to keep it the rest of my life. It's great for the tight quarters you mention, but if you want to whack something at 300 yds, it'll do it.

RE: WTB short barrel carbine deer rifle
I have a .308 Browning BAR Stalker (Alloy reciever, blackplastic stock) 2006, little used.
I has been professionally modified into a 16" (16.125") Barreled, 1" shorter stock "brush gun/carbine". I live and hunt in Maine.. The woods are very thick here. Shots are short.. Short guns are the trick with low power scopes... This may be more $$$ than you want to spend.. They are about $825 new at a good discount.. It has a Burris1.5x5 Fullfield II (Matte) scope and Leupold QR rings and Limbsaver slip on pad... I'd ask $625 for it and actual shipping to your FFL only... Its honestly like new, looks good in all black. Oh.. There is an extra ($50) .308 magazine included.. If your interested.. I can take some pics for you... Gene C. OH! If the stock is too short.. The Browning web site lists a new Stalker replacement stock for only $32! |
I use a 30.30 Lever action when I hunt from tree stands or crawl through thickets. The marlin probably dropped 20 deer so far. The 300 win mag goes when iI go 3 miles in. It is pleasure to carry and blasts deer and my hearing. Tried to hunt with a 357 mag pistol I needed to wear.muffs. t i

I use a remington Model 7 22" barrel in 300 wsm. XCR with fluted stainless and camo stock.
Sweet rifle light, fast, accurate. I mounted a ziess 3x 9 conquest ... so far it has killed coyotes,a very nice mule deer and My once in a lifetime bighorn sheep. next week my first ELK with it. If one is dumb enough to get in the way. Very nice rifle |
