C.A.S./S.A.S. Anyone??

I'm really looking for a way to get into CAS or SAS (cowboy action shooting or Single action shooting), but I'm not really sure how to go about it. From what I've heard, I have all the basic equipment I'll need (a single shot revolver = Ruger Super Blackhawk .44mag 7.5"bbl, a lever action rifle = Marlin rancher 1894 .44 mag 22"bbl, and a double barreled hammerless shotgun = baikal 2.75" 12ga), but I haven't been able to affirm that yet? I'm looking at a new Ruger Vaquero in .45Colt, which I'm VERY willing to purchase, and would love to be able to use as well.

A) would I be able to use these arms in the events?
B) where and how often are events in or near Kansas?
C) how could I set up a practice arena to be true to event?
D) what other equipment would I need to purchase or obtain?

(trust me, I have the costume, wear it everyday)

Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!!

Nomercy, I'm sure there's a cowboy group around there somewhere....I did som cowboy shooting a few years ago and among the rules was the shotgun can't have ejectors.....extractors is fine however...the revolver can't have adjustable sights....buy many clubs overlook that rule...

The Vaquero is a fine gun but stay with the .44 Mag and forget the .45 LC You have a fine leveraction rifle in .44 Mag....stay with it.

The .45 LC always bothers me in that there's so many replicas that can't handle the hi pressure loads that the Ruger can.....

I believe it's advisable for a cowboy shooter to have two revolvers as well..if you decide to buy a pair of colt clones.....go with Uberti only.....I've had very poor luck with (especially) EMF

Have a Ball!!

Thanks a bunch Vapodog, I finally found a site that had pretty vague, but mildly useful info on their regs, and I'm still kinda hazy on the shotgun, but I found out there is a "modern" class that would allow me to use both the .44 mag Ruger SUperblackhawk (with adjustable sights) and the .45 Colt Ruger Vaquero (also with adjustable sights). I'm not really planning to get into the traditional/replica arms, unless I get into the percussion class, so I don't really need to worry about weak replicas.

BTW, thanks also for stating it's a good idea to have two revolvers, I was having some trouble convincing my fiance that I need another handgun, especially just for a "game" as she puts it.

cass.com should give you all the lowdown as well as links to shoots and members. Evilroyshootingschool.com also has some good links. As far as the shotgun I believe there is a restriction regarding automatic ejectors. I am not sure that the Baikal doesn't have the automatic ejectors. You may be able to simply remove them, I don't know. something I've always wanted to try just never had the time.
