most accurate single shot?
Single shot rifles are just expected to be accurate. From what I've seen and read, some live up to that standard, and some don't. I'm curious to hear what single shot you consider the most accurate.

RE: most accurate single shot?
go to a benchrest competition in your area and look at what they're shooting.....and I can tell you right now, these guys are shooting bolt action rifles.....and single shot isn't the thing either.....they just choose to shoot them that way...
If you're looking for the pretty falling block single shots to be the accuracy animal in your gun cabinet.....look again.....find a Remington 40-X |
RE: most accurate single shot?
In a hunting style rifle,the N.E.F. Handi Rifle,is very good. As to a bolt action,factory rifle,the Savage BVSS-S,is good.
As to Bench Rest guns, these are custom actions and there are a number of makers.[single shot ] I shoot Bench Rest / Factory class, and use the Savage . Mounting Man/in PA. |
RE: most accurate single shot?
I bought an H&R 25.06 Ultra single about two months ago and although i handload i was pressed for time and tried some factory bullets in it and the accuracy was a nightmare. The trigger was way to heavy so i sent it out for a trigger job and just got it back yesterday and also floated the barrel. I hope this helps and i hope to work up a load for it soon and see just how accurate i can make it. I've seen where these rifles can be accurate but also where people have had accuracy problems with them. I don't expect to get the accuracy out of it that i do with my bolt guns but it would be nice if i could. I'm gonna give it one heck of a try.

RE: most accurate single shot?
If you're going to own a single shot, why buy a bolt action?? Get a falling block!!! Ruger No. 1 (in my opinion, it's the most consistently accurate, and very much so, falling block rifle I've ever dealt with, and it's American made).
Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!! |
RE: most accurate single shot?
My vote would go to the T/C Encore! I own a "few" barrels and ALL of them are accurate...

RE: most accurate single shot?
NoMercy.....sorry.....can't disagree with you more, the two Ruger #1s
I've dealt with never shot better than 3" at 100 yards and that's with varmint barrels....Every bolt action I've owned did better than that!!!! |
RE: most accurate single shot?
I tried the Ruger #1 and it was okay but I have bolts that are better .

RE: most accurate single shot?
All good single shot rifles will shoot as well as a bolt, given the right ammunition. In my experience, however, they tend to be more "picky" about the loads they like.

RE: most accurate single shot?
TC Encore gets my vote. Out shoots both my remington and ruger heavy barreled rifles.

RE: most accurate single shot?
The five Ruger No. 1's and one No. 3 I have owned would all do at least 1" @ 100 yards, and some were better. This is "out-of the-box", with a scope mounted but no other tinkering. For example, my first No. 1, a 1B in 7mm Rem. Mag. bought in 1969, will hold 1" @ 200 yards (3-shot groups).

RE: most accurate single shot?
Now as far as Encores go I have never owned one but have seen many shot at the Gun club and I have never seen any outstanding groups by any of them and they were in all sort of configurations...custom..semi-custom with barrel or stock and their accuracy is nothing to write home about. Yet people rave about them so maybe I am seeing the rejects of the bunch. BTW I like Thompson Center products and have owned a number of contenders which were great handguns. If someone is getting 3" groups with a 1-v then something is seriously wrong...I see those things all the time in 220 swift and 243 that shoot incredible groups.

RE: most accurate single shot?
I've only owned 1 single shot, RUGAR #1 IN 25-06.
It shoots moa at 100yards and thats good enough for me. |
RE: most accurate single shot?
I dont own one but a buddy of mine has a modle 1 ruger in 6mm rem and that thing is alsome if I was looking for a singel shoot that would be my ferst pik

RE: most accurate single shot?
depending on what your looking for bench gun, low price, versatle, or what. I have owned several single shots. I have had several ruger #1's that all shot very well with right load. I have had afew of the NEF's and they all shot well for the money. I have a TC contender with several barrls and it shoots all them well. But the most accurate I have ever had was a Remington 40X in .223 awsome gun;

RE: most accurate single shot?
My H&R .308 shoots great. Still working on dialing in the scope but it's gonna be a shooter. I don't hand load but so far it is shooting factory loads very well. Best groups came from Federal Premium so that's what I will probably stay with.

RE: most accurate single shot?
I have just purchased the T/C encore 7mm. I have a Remington model 700 and had been hunting years with it but wanted something different. I'll see this summer how accurate my Encore will be and I'm sure it will do just fine.

RE: most accurate single shot?
I also have a H&R ultra in 25-06. mine shoots 1/2 to 3/4 three shot groups at 100 yards out of the box. not bad for factory ammo. With a little tweeking, and the right handloads I hope to get it better.

RE: most accurate single shot?
You guy's with the ultra 25-06's make me jealous. The one I had was the worst rifle I have ever owned. I worked over a year trying to make it shoot and finally got rid of it.
If it shot 4" groups it was a good day. |
RE: most accurate single shot?
Since you ask about single shots I will limit my response to those. I have had many single shot rifles. The Browning is very accurate. I had one in 220 swift. It shot groups well under one inch with only minimum tinkering. I have had several No. one Rurers and a couple no 3,s. They all shot very well. One was in 416 Rem mag, I only shot 3 shot groups for reason of pain and agony but the gun shot well. All of the H&Rs I have had shot pretty well like 1 1/2 inches or better. However if you can believe it the most accurate one I ever shot was the rifle barrel on one of those Savage 30-30 over 20 guage shotgun. I shot groups with all bullets touching many times using nosler ballistic tip 150 grain bullets. One calm day when everything was clicking right, I shot a one inch group with it at 200 yards. I did have one 270 Remongton pump that shot just as well as that Savage.
