for blackies, the 30-30 is hard to beat in my opinion. Second to that would be the 12ga slugs guns. Then I would bother with the 7 mag, but for close shots it wouldn't really be able to "shine". All of these are great bear guns. And for 50-60 yard shots your options are endless as to what firearm to use.

After spending many nights over baits watching many bears I would choose the 7mm mag with partitions or failsafes.A low powered scope is a real advantage because bears often come to the bait right at last light when it is hard to see open sights or branches that might be in the way.

I'd go with the 7MM with 160grain nosler partition with low powered scope

I'd opt for the 30-30 with a 170 gr. bullet. This load will do less damage to the bear's coat than the other choices you mentioned, and still packs plenty of punch to put a large bear down quickly and safely.

I agree with Stubblejumper. If you shoot all equally well, why not take the one with the most power and range just in case you need it. Shots are USUALLY 50-60 yds. But what if you see a monster beaqr at 250yds.

Is this a guided hunt where your guide will be the one following a wounded bear into the thick stuff? If so he should have the right gun for that job. If you may have to do it, the 12 ga. slug gun might be handy.

In my opinion ( which counts only as a novice by no means a pro ) at 50-60 yards all guns you mentioned will work. the question i think you need to ask yourself is, which gun do I feel the most comfortable with. I have seen a 350 pound black this pastseason in clinton count Pa. killed with a 243. savage. the bear went straight down, and i have read countless articles on bearhunting. all i have experienced and read,leads me to believe bears really aren't that tough to kill, just very frustrating to find. if this scenerio was mine I'd pick the 30-30 because i love mine greatly and feel very confident in the guns ability to kill and my ability to place my shot where i need to with it. i hope that helped you with your decisionad god keep america free
