Loading pointed bullets for 30-30?

I picked up a Savage 340 in 30-30 today (bolt action) and was thinking of loading up some pointed bullets for it just to try out. Does anybody have any experience in doing this that they would like to share?

I used to have a savage 340 in .222-my very first centerfire rifle. Also load 30-30 contender rechambered to 300 jdj. All you have to remember is to watch seating depth so it ain't too long to cycle thru magazine.
A bullet that will really wake the 30-30 up is the 125 grain nosler ballistic tip. Have you gave any thought about rechambering it to 30-30 ackley improved? It's VERY easily done and will feed from your mag without any modfications.

No, I havent really thought about rechambering it to the Ackley Improved. I really do not know much about that round to tell you the truth. I really like the 30-30 for several reasons. 1. Its a classic 2. It has low recoil 3. Ammo is cheap 4. It is easy to reload and many gains can be found doing so 5. I shot my first deer with one nearly 20 years ago lol. Maybe I should have posted this question in the reloading forums, but I was hoping to get some feedback on the gun as well. :)

I haven't done any reloads on 30-30 as of yet. I will if Hornady ever starts selling the LeveRevolution bullets.

Prior to this last weekend, I hadn't taken anything down with a 30-30 in years. Can't believe how much I missed it.

I have a 340 as well, the problem with pointed bullets is, it is pretty hard to seat them deep enough for the magazine. Mine shoots ONLY 170gr bullets, which is apparently due to the twist. I could relate a long story about my education in reloading due to this rifle, but I won't bore you with it. Suffice to say, the last few years, I have used nothing but cast bullets in it, and it shoots really good. I have shot several deer in Texas with it, and I think it's a great little rifle.
