New Gun
 

I just bought a new remington 700 synthetic in 30-06 and was wondering if i need to do anything to it befor I take it out to shoot? Do I need to run anything through the barrel or put any lube on anything, or is it ok just the way it is?

Look thru the barrel....if the rifling is crisp and clean, you may just shoot it. However it's wise to run a cloth patch thru the barrel several times....the last pass thru to include a light gun oil.....That insures that any rustpreventative that may be installed by the Manufacturer is removed. Years ago manufacturers used cosmoline and that stuff needed to be removed.......I suspect they have learned that that is no longer necessary to use cosmoline in the bore. I've seen some so badly packed with cosmoline that you can't see light thru the barrel.

I would too run a patch through a couple time and then a very little oil on one then a clean patch.I just bought a rem BDL stainless and when I looked at the barrel it looked like it had been shot,asked the dealer and he assured me it hadn't.
When I get a new gun or used I allways check the barrel to see if anything has gotten in there by mistake before firing.

I clean every gun I get new or used just to be sure its done to my satisfaction .I also clean between rounds on a new gun for the first box . I don't know if it helps but it hasn't hurt any . I have seen some pretty dirty new guns that looked like they had test firing residue in them from the factory .

i do what halcon does but i don't clean between rounds.

Usually I'll do this, first 20- clean every 3-5, then every 10 for the next fifty. After that every 20-30 rds with thorough cleaning at the end of each session.
