Howa 1500 opinions?

Im thinking about getting A Howa 1500 in 300 Winmag. I am looking at the package that includes the hogue overmolded stock (I have one on my .260 and love it), and then adding a Leupold VX-II or VX-III, and havint the whole thing cerakoted.

Anyone have any experience with the Howa's?
thanks,
Al

I love my Howa 1500 varminter supreme. Looks good, works great, and IMO it was a good value.

I haven't shot one, but I've fondled them several times. I seem to always go back to the savage. If you like the feel and fit, go for it though. They are supposed tobe good shooters.

They ARE good shooters. I have a Vanguard in .300 Wby with a 3x9 Vari-X II that consistently shoots 1/2" groups with three rounds at 100 yards.

I have a Smith & Wesson 1500 that was made in '84 with a bull barrel (.223) and it shoots awesome. It was made by Howa for them and I like it a lot. My only complaint is the trigger is crap, but I don't know about the new ones.

I wouldn't hesistate to buy a new one though, they look pretty good to me.

I have a Howa 1500 chambered in .223 and I'm happy with it. It is made in Japan and is basically a Weatherby Vanguard stamped as a Howa 1500, not much of a difference other than cosmetics. I've never had any problems with mine, but I've only had it for about 4 years and probably have only fired about 300 rounds through it so far. The best groups I can get are 1.5" at 100 for 5 shots, most are right around 2". I'm sure I'm the limiting factor and not the rifle.
I would buy another one.
