7.62x54R cartridge
This is a pretty ancient round that is used mostly in the Russian Mosin-Nagant rifles and carbines. I'm guessing that it's somewhere in the league of our 30.06 cartridge as far as hunting effectiveness. Accurate?

RE: 7.62x54R cartridge
It comes close to the 30-06 in performance, but in the right rifle can be even more accurate. IMO it is a very good cartridge.
It would probably be more popular if it was not a rimmed cartridge. The rim hasn't hurt the 45-70 ,30-30,303 british etc. |

RE: 7.62x54R cartridge
The 7.62X54R has been around a long time and even so, quality factory loads are a bit tough to find. Military surplus is readily available at most gun shops. They have also been manufactured in other countries besides Russia, such as Poland, and China. In good condition they shoot pretty well off the rack, but can be customized to fit the shooter with aftermarket synthetic stocks, bolt handles and scope mounts. If you want the best accuracy you can get from the rifle. I suggest loading your own ammo, but be sure to get reloadable brass as most of the military ammo can't be reloded.
