Tweeking a Ruger 10/22
 

I want to make a few upgrades to improve a 10/22 I just got. It will be just a fun gun my boy and I will use at off-hand shoots and of course to help keep the tree rat population in check. Right now I figure on getting a Volquartsen target hammer and a decent scope.
Any other suggestions?

Butler Creek makes a stainless Fluted bull barrel that I have always wanted. One of the simplest upgrades to mine was the aftermarket mag release.

Keep us posted on the Volquartsen target hammer and how that works out for you.

I have a custom Volquartsen .22 and I am amazed at the accuracy it delivers. Of course one has to watch the ammo you feed it (no CCI Stingers) due to the tight match chamber but oh can this little gun shoot!!

There is a steel pin that stops the back action of the bolt. Some guys replace this with a pin that has a rubber coating. It acts like a bumper. There is an official name for the part, but I forget what it is. A friend of mine at work is a 10/22 freak. He told me about it. They cost about $4. Look on Ebay or 10/22 sites. A trigger job would be nice too.

First thing to fix, TRIGGER PULL. get it lightened up.

I just got my son a 10/22 for Christmas. It's stainless with the synthetic stock. I put a 3X9X40 Vari-x II on it. Right now he's shootin a group at 30 yards you can cover with a nickel. The trigger has a really good feel to it but is very heavy. By the way, what's a good trigger job gonna cost me?

I play around with 10/22's also, i'm currently setting up my 2nd gun.
my 1st is as follows (and subject to change)all stainless:
volquartzen .920 comp. barrel with cantalever scope mount
volquartzen trigger 200
volq. bolt buffer
volq extracter
burris 3-9x32 compact
houge overmolded stock (looking for new stock)
total cost about $1100

2nd. gun will be a "hunting" model all stainless:
butler creek carbon fiber .920 barrel
volq. hammer
volq sear
volq extracter
volq springs
clark trigger
volq bolt buffer
tasco pp3 red dot (undecided)
stock undecided but will be dipped in mossy oak break up
butler creek extended mag release
volq bolt release
burris scope base and rings

I'm still looking for the right ammo to shoot good out of my 1st gun, i don't really shoot it much at all. so far the Eley tenx don't function well at all, jams alot. the Federal gold medal match shoot fairly well. The winchester power points shot good, one hole. my indoor range is only 25yds.

Outdoorsmen, you had me drooling for a moment. I think I forgot to mention that I want to keep this a low budget project. I'm sure that once I get started I'll keep adding or changing something. I did forget to mention the mag extension and the bolt buffer is a good idea. See I started all ready.

The guy that got me started in this showed me how much an improvement just replacing the hammer can be, it drops the trigger pull from 8lbs down to around 2.5lb.

This guy is really cool, he's one of those guys that you really want to be friends with. He shows up at the shoots with a variety of guns that are either completely modified or in progress and, he lets ya play with everything. He has a couple 10/22s with fluted snake barrels, custom match triggers, polished this, honed that. "You don't like the 3x9x40 scope? Try the red dot instead. You tired of shooting the rifle? Here, try this Mark II I just finished." One weekend I was high scorer with one of his handguns shooting 50yrds standing postion.(Note to self: don't drink coffee before matches)

I think he enjoys showing off his handy work as much as I enjoy shooting them. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

the volquartzen snake barrel is real good looking, i wish that barrel was out when I bought mine.
hey, playing around with guns is fun. you get the feeling of satisfaction knowing that you costumized yourself, like no others. I always do something to all my guns.

I just bought a browning buckmark target 5.5&quot; fluted and put a simmons (not the best i know) red dot scope on it. man, that is a sweat shooting little gun. with remington subsonic bullets there is no muzzle flip at all. It's alot different than shooting my glock 35 even with my M6 tac light/laser on the front.
