Gunstock Care
I have a brand new Citori O/U with a high gloss finish walnut stock. Does anyone have any particular product and/or method that will protect the stock. I will be in pheasant and wild quail country and I really want to do what I can to protect and care for the stock up-front. Thank you for your help.

RE: Gunstock Care
Modern gun often have some sort of synthetic finish on them. I just use good furniture cleaning product like an Olde English polish. Don't use gun oil or worse solvent! It really depends how the wood was treated.

A good automotive paste wax and a toothbrush (prefferably your wife's) to take any wax out of the checkering.

RE: Gunstock Care
I have never used car wax on high gloass modern finish. I am afraid that is slightly abbrasive and will scratch the finish. Is there any brands that work better than others? I know Flitz has a gun wax but I have never tryied it on wood finish.

RE: Gunstock Care
Not true. Good automotive paste waxes will not scratch a fine finish. I'm quite sure Johnson's, Simonize, Mother's, etc., etc. would have been sued and out of business years ago if they did. What WILL scratch a finish is an applicator pad or cloth that has been dropped on the ground or in the dirt and continued to be used without a good cleaning. I've used paste wax on all my stocks that I refinish and have yet to find a scratch caused by it. Same goes for my vehicles.
