Protecting my finish

I recently purchased a browning gold 3 1/2 inch shotgun with the nice shiny wood and blued barrel. I want to use it for waterfowl hunting, but i am to worried about hurting the finish, so just wondering if you guys have any suggestions about how to keep it nice. THanks

Make sure you clean it thoroughly after you're done using it and keep it oiled with a quality gun oil, I use G-96 Gun Treatment. Do that, and you shouldn't have a problem.

Hey Bigj,
You use gun oil right on the wood? I have had the same question. Just bought a gun that has a great finish and I want to protect it.
Thought maybe I should use some sort of wax but I have no idea

I have a Browning BAR, which has a glossy stock, and the manual stated to oil the stock with their Browning Oil
-OR- a good furniture polish, but not both. I would assume this would be the same for your glossy finish on your shotgun's stock.

Get you a good gun case also.. So that you don't ding it on the way to and from the blind..

If you REALLY want to keep it nice, leave it in the safe and use an old 870. Seriously, I would recommend a good automotive paste wax for the stock and a good wiping down of the barrel and action with a good grade gun oil after use. It's always worked for me.

While I have never had a problem with G-96 on the wood of any of my firearms, I don't intentionally spray the wood to begin with. I just use a good wood wax on the stocks, the rest is G-96.....it's good stuff.

The most important thing........clean your gun.
