Remington 870 magnum or not

Hello,
I am a new guy here and just purchased a 870 express 12 ga..My question is how do I know if I can shoot 3" magnum turkey loads or if I have to use 2 3/4.Some of the 870s can only shoot the 2 3/4 right? The barrel has a 3" chamber. Thanks in advance.

RE: Remington 870 magnum or not

870s with 3"receivers should have an "M" at the end of the serial number. If it has a 2 3/4" receiver, it will have a "V" at the end of the serial number. Assuming your receiver is a 3", you can shoot 2 3/4" and 3" shells interchangeably without adjustment.
