7mm-08

In my opinion, I think that this is the greatest deer round ever invented. Thats a bold statement I know, but I really have the most confidence in this cal. My grandfather has used this to kill many deer when he used to crp for personal ranch herds. Im going to ask for a Remington model 770 in 7mm-08 for my 16th birthday in december. So what do you guys think about this round?

Bud, it dosn't matter what we think, you are confident with it and that's what counts....

It does work, my brother has had one since the early 80s, has probably killled 100 deer with it...His son owns it now...

Ct, the 7mm-08 is an outstanding cartridge. People seem to shoot it extremely well, largely do to the fact that it does not produce a lot of excess recoil. I have found it to be effective all the way up to elk if range does not get beyond a couple of hundred yards or so. This cartridge with a quality 140 grain bullet is really hard to beat. It should have enough energy to drop deer out about as far as most people can accurately shoot.

I had the 7mm-08 in the TC Encoe 15" handgun. Shot very well with the 140gr. bullet weight. Very good cartiridge. The only thing I would change in your idea is the model of Remington. I perfer the 700 or the model 7over the 770. This is just my opinion.

Although I own and am impressed with the 7-08 I'm not sure that I would rate it as the best deer round. I load mine with a 140 gr. bullet and the ballistics are excellent. You can get a nice gun/scope pkg. with the Rem 710 which comes with a 3x9x40 scope. I believe that you will get a good bag for your buck with this rig.

My next bolt action will be the 7mm-08. The people that use them are really fond of them. Too many people love them for there not to be something to it.

I handled the 770 in a Gander Mountain and I was not impressed. It's supposed to be an improvement over the 710? And the gun was just way too heavy, you don't want that for a 7mm-08. Save up a few more pesos or borrow them if you have to, to get a better rifle like the T3 lite, Ruger, or an SPS. I know Ruger is clearancing thier MKII M77's right now, Cabelas has them on sale for only $400 in that particular caliber as well as every other caliber except for the WSM's.

Just a thought.
