7mm-08
Thinking about buying a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08. It will be more of a backup deer and coyote gun than anything else. I have experience with these rifles, just what about the cartridge. Any info would be great.

It's a good one, my brother bought a Model 7 in that caliber back in the early 80s...Has killed a ton of deer with it, he uses the 140gr CoreLokts.

If you reload, there are a lot a 7mm bullet choices. I don't have a 7mm-08, but I do shoot a .243, 25-308, and a.308. Allof those use the same parent brass and are very easy to work with and shoot with limited recoil. Sounds like a good choice to me.

I have a 7 mm-08 that I’ve used for couple of years. Have only taken 2 deer with it so far but must say it’s a cartridge that very pleasant to shoot. The 7 mm has a good selection of bullets to reload if you do reload...

Great choice. Plenty of down range power, low recoil.

RE: 7mm-08
I've used one the last 2 seasons. 12 deer later I say its a dandy. Core-lokts work very well in it. I like it so well I have 2 of them now.

RE: 7mm-08
I've got two of them.
That rifle will soon become your main deer rifle... not your backup... Its unbeatable as a medium game round in my book. And there again, if you handload there isn't much you can't get it to without going into the 8mm class. |
RE: 7mm-08
I bought one in 2004, and have killed my share of deer with it. I used 140 gr. Accubonds in it last year because it just shoots them so well. It's a great cartridge to handload, and there are plenty of bullet/powder combinations available if you reload. The recoil is minimal. It's a fun gun to shoot. As was said before, if you start fiddling with it, I'm sure it will become your go-to deer gun.
