You've no doubt heard of the Canadian Firearm Registry. Bill C-68 was enacted some years ago part of which required all firearms in Canada to be registered by January 1st. 2003. In spite of huge cost overruns, extensive bungling and high error rate, wide spread non-compliance as well as calls from many organizations and governments at the provincial (state) level to abandon this ineffective registration requirement, the Feds continued on. Now at the last minute it is close to collapse or imploding from within. There is at this time a lot of pressure on the government to abandon this billion $$ boondoggle and it appears they might just cave to this pressure.

You fellow Americans can help us win this battle. The Canadian Firearms Centre is being inundated with telephone enquiries by gun owners from all across Canada in an effort to put further pressure on the system to hopefully help with its failure. You can help us with this campaign. Please call the toll free number 1-800-731-4000 (accessible from the U.S.) and make an enquiry, any enquiry you can think. Examples; can I buy a rifle in Canada and have it shipped to the U.S.? If I go to Canada to hunt do I have to register my rifle? If I move to Canada can I bring my rifle(s) and how long do I have to register them? Any reasonable question you can think of. The idea is to bog the system to a stand still. You may get a recording indicating the system is busy with a high volume of calls. Please persist with your re-dial button. After a few or maybe several tries you will get through.

Also please cut & paste this post in an e-mail to all your shooting friends and associates.

Uniting the right is highly unlikely. In any event that is not short term. The registry is an immediate concern and crisis. We need all the help we can muster to push this useless gun registry into the abyss. It is to the advantage of all gun owners in North America for this registry to not happen. Every time our rights are lessened either side of the border we all come closer to the day when firearms will be totally restricted or prohibited. Anything that can be done to push this registry over the bank is a help and the more calls to the CFC the better. By the way Otis, what have you personally done to try and stop this fiascal? gg.

I applaud your efforts. However, when the roof is leaking one should be putting their time and money into fixing the roof not changing the weather patterns.

Personally, after actively campaigning for the CA prior to the last election, although disappointed in the results, I was subsequently more disappointed in Day's performance and the in-fighting which later split the party. Also the PC's have clearly shown they have no intentions of uniting. I do hope one day the right will unite - realistically I don't expect to see it in my lifetime.

As for our OFAH, as a long time member it has become blatantly obvious to me of late they have relaxed their efforts against C-68. After all though their main focus is fishing, conservation and hunting, in that order.

I would encourage you and all Canadian gun owners to join and support both of these organizations.

And your absolutely right. Americans may be fighting this fight sooner than later. As we speak, Sen. Charles Schumer, The Violence Policy Center, and the Brady Campaign have called for a national database of all firearms. It is promoted under the guise of "Ballistic Fingerprinting" to be able to track a firearm used in a crime. Same argument used to support the registration component of C-68.

Keep the letters going and make a couple of calls to the CFC 1-800-731-4000 gg.

To my dear friends in Canada.....I consider us brothers...we speak the same language and have the same values.....and I see us separated by only two things.....a border....and a government!!

In the past, I've fished as many as seven times in a single year in Ontario and Manitoba...and totally catch and release, I've hunted geese in manitoba.....and a magnificient time...I've hunted in British columbia, Ontario and Quebec for Moose, elk, and Caribou.....

But this finally needs to be said...the last time I hunted in canada I was charged a $50 registration fee.....for My .300 Win Mag.....How many crimes has American hunters caused with heir hunting rifles???

In 1991 I was returning from Newfoundland on a fishing trip and I just happened to stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia and watch through Binoculars the retrofitting of a war ship being sent to the Desert storm. You folks in six months managed to garner a whole three ships to send to Desert Storm......what a bunch of weenies!!!!!

I personally know Canadians and think the world of them as I would my own kin...but your government is making a mokery out of your character...They expect us to pay for your stupid health care system and they expect us to pay for the defense of not only North America but the rest of the world as well.

My heart goes out to you because I know it's not what you believe in.....but I don't see the civil action that I'd hope would take place here if it happened in the US!!! My dear friends, the spotlight is on you and I'm cheering for you.....but I must admit I'm not optomistic. Instead of hunting canada again this fall, I picked someplace else.....I'm very saddened by my loss of faith in you folks!!

I really feel sorry for you guys, but in reality you've brought it on yourselves. How many conservative parties do you guys have up there? Two? Three? Every heard of the concept "divide and conquer"? If you focus your efforts on bringing down the firearms registry aministration, but don't do anything to alter the law that created it in the first place, your victory will be shortlived.

If the firearms registry is self-destructing already, I think it'd be prudent to focus your efforts on uniting conservative voters under one party and kick the oppressive Socialist liberals out of office. That way, when the firearms registry kills itself no one's left to able to ressurrect it.

Until then, my guns and my hunting money will not get anywhere near Canada. It's hard enough keeping the liberals hands off my guns here.

Goodguy....sorry, it's you who must act.....I have acted by taking my hunting and fishing money elsewhere!!

You have the most beautiful nation on this planet.....it's a magnificient place and the richest hunting and fishing ever. You have more lakes than all the rest of the nations of the world put together.....you have more free and public land than the continent of Africa.....and I'm at a loss as to how to explain why I'm no longer willing to pay your way for you through the horrible taxation system you've imposed on me as a visitor. The regulation of things of trivia....my gun, and the increasing fees in every manner I can think of.......

We have serious trouble here in the US too.....and I'm bothered by it seriously.....there will come a time when we too will be required to register our guns, I truly believe that that day has not come because it's believed that will result in serious consequenses.....as I said earlier, the spotlight is on you.

This is an issue of control.....who is going to control.....me or my government.....and the founding fathers of the United States saw this problem and guaranteed me the right to own a gun to insure that I maintain control. My dear friend....the founding fathers of the United States are the same as the fathers of your country.....brothers at a minimum, and I know their hearts were the same. You and I will have the very same question.....how do I act!!!!! It is my deepest prayer that I act according to my feelings that are tied to my rights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was asking for your help not to take on the battle. Many of us here have been fighting long & hard and we are close to succeeding. It may only take a few more pushes to send it over the edge and that's all I was requesting, a few more pushes. We do need your support. Maybe I did not express myself adequately or clearly enough. Much of what you say is true and I do appreciate your sentiments and comments at least in part but it's really not the time for you to say -"you made your bed now sleep in it", I'm paraphrasing of course. Another point I might make is that down the road if and when you're fighting this same battle it will be to your advantage and a strong argument for the opponents to be able to say; ."look at Canada, it failed there, why would it be any different here"? Conversely the reverse argument will be made by the proponents should it not fail here. I reiterate, if this gun registry happens it is to no gun owner's advantage regardless of which side of the border we happen to be sitting on. gg.
