Default slug gun question

hey guys, i have a benneli nova pump, with no scope, just factory sights. i was wandering if these guns are always on point up to a certain yardage? I mean do they need to be sighted in. i know every gun should be sighted in using different ammo, chokes, etc, but if i wanted to hunt with it right out of the box, would it be able to kill a deer? thanks

Chances ar that it is pretty close, but unless you can put the gun to the deer's head and pull the trigger, there are no guarantees. My son's 870 was dead on out of the box, but then went all over the place. It took a box of slugs to figure out that the screw on the rear sight had come loose during shipping. Hit the range, if only for your benefit. If you don't, when you are in the field and put the sights on that deer, you will be questioning yourself...."Should I take that 70 or 85 or 100 yd shot? Should I stay within 50 yds?...

Put some rounds downrange, you'll feel better for it. If you are worried about cost, get some Brenneke KO's for about $2 to $3 a box and sight in at 50 yds. They will be real close to sabot's at that range. Then finish up with a few shots of whatever you plan to use for hunting to check it.

They should be close, but must be sighted in and practiced at any range you intend to shoot game at.

Jeez, any gun firing a single projectile HAS to be zeroed in withthe ammo you are using! Shotguns especially, as they tend to be less accurate than rifles.

Even shooting SHOT CHARGES, you need to pattern your shotgun so you know EXACTLY where the center of the shot pattern lies with respect to the bead out on the barrel........

NOT a brilliant idea!
