Otis, let me tell you about some of the truly great Remington introductions that should have been winners and lost!!

1. 6MM remington......a truly fine cartridge that lost over twist rate!!!

2. .280 Remington this thing should outsell the .270 ten to one......it's simply a better cartridge.....and it's not doing it!!

3. 8MM Rem mag.....another great cartridge....and it lost over bullet selection

Otis, If you compare a 350 and 338-06 useing a the same weight bullet I think that you will find the 338-06 has better down range ballistics. I use the 210gr partition because that bullet works for me. I also use a 200gr Bt on deer. One other point that favors either a 338-06 or 35 Whelan is that cases are easy to make by necking up a 30-06. Will Remington really support the 350 this time? 350 cases are more difficult to make. The 350 is a good cartridge and I've considered buying one but haven't done so yet. However, there are alot of things that need to be considered with any round that is not very popular. If you're looking for real magnum performance in either 338 or 358 caliber then look to the 338WM, 340 WBY or 358 Norma.

I don't mean to sound like a smart-@$$ or anything, but when you buy a .338'06 or .350 RM for hunting in the thick stuff specifically, what the crap does down-range ballistics have to do with anything. A bunch of you keep mentioning that the .338'06 has better down-range stats vs. the .350 RM but why are you going to look at 250, 300, and 350 yd performance for a 100-150yd gun?

Pyral.....that's the point.....no one can assure you're going to get a a shot under 100 yards.....and the .338 is equivalant to the .358 in a hundred yards....it's not an 'if/then' test....it's an "if/if" test and you go with the better "if" caliber....in this case the .338!!!

According to Layne Simpson's write up on the new 673(with 225 gr Swift A-Frame factory loading) will deliver 2000 ft lbs at 200 yards that tells me it is good for Moose and Elk out to 200 yards(maybe a tad more) and would probably be good for deer out to 275-300 yards(as far as most hunters should be shooting). I am not sure if this is a MAX load so it maybe even higher numbers when all is said and done.


As for the 338/06 there is NO comparison you are comparing a long action cartridge to a short action one. Try chambering the 350 mag in a M700 Classic so you can seat the bullets out to make use of the case capacity and your 338/06 will pale in comparison. The only advantage the 338/06 would have is less bullet drop. The ft lbs would go to the 350 HANDS DOWN.

I own a 350 in a M600 Carbine and I would feel VERY comfortable shouldering it in Grizzly country.

I shoot a rem classic in 350 rem magnum. I load hornady's 200gr round nose bullets and AA2520 powder for an average velocity of 2923fps.This load keeps 3 shots in an inch at 100yds.I have loaded some 225gr nosler partitions but have yet to find a load for the 225 gr that I am satisfied with.
