.270 wsm vs A big Bull

Will a .270 wsm shooting 150gr XP3 bullets cleanly kill a big bull up to 350 yds if I do my part. Or Should I buy a new .300 win mag?

Thanks

There has been many of moose shot with a standard 270win. So 270wsm should work fine. I will keep you posted on my deer and elk hunting this year with my newRemington 700xcr in 270wsm. I drew a doe deer and cow elk tag in my state. So far I have shot the factory 150gr. Winchester Power-Points and getting 1/2" groups at 100yds. I am going to try the Winchester Supreme with the 140gr. accru-bonds. In my area they don't have any Winchester XP3 in 270wsm yet. Keep us posted with the moose hunt using the 270wsm and good luck on the hunt.

Oh yea, I have seen a 270win with 140gr take one down. I have taken with a 30-06 and 300RUM. My guide uses a 243 believe it or not.

If you have to ask...why would you use it? Overkill is always better than just enough! Take something that you have confidence in, not something you are asking questions about! Here we go again!

If you get to hunt moose on a daily basis...then feel free to experiment! I'm going on my first moose hunt next year and I'm not sure which rifle I'll be taking, but I'll promose you this,I won't be be asking if it is enough gun!

I have never used that bullet so I couldnt speak on its performance but the caliber will be fine if like you say, you do your part. It would be just as good as the 300 Mag. You might check out the 160 grain Nosler Partition as well.

Jack O'Conner killed a few with his .270, the first with 130 gr bullets...
Just poke him in the ribs...

Moose generally are not hard to kill. Before I hunted them, I thought I had to take a 338win mag. I learned quick, that they are not like an elk.

Thats true. A moose may not be impressed when first hit even with big calibers. The often act like there was no hit at all and just walk off. They usually don't go far though. The last one I saw shot was hit very well with a Sako 300 Win Mag. The critter didn't even flinch and my buddy hit him two more times before he just walked off around a river bend then tipped over dead. This one had a 66 inch spread.

Should work fine for you. 300 win mag doesn't really have all that much on a 270 WSM @ 300+ yards until the 180 gr range.

I shot a42" at 300 yards with a 30-06, and it acked drunk at first, and went back feeding, I was getting ready put another in it, and my guide said don't worry about it. After a min, it fell down taking 6" trees with it. Hoofs in the air

A big bull WHAT?? Moose? Elk? Elephant?? Moose, yes. Elk, for sure. Elephant? A little on the light side...... OK! MOOSE!! MOOSE are easier to kill than elk. But most moose will not drop at the shot, no matter what hits them - they just stuble off and die pretty close to where they were when shot. Unfortunately, given their propensity for swmpland, they sometimes stumble out into a creek or pond then drop in the mucky water! Ugh!!

You will of course, have to place the bullet correctly. But that's true no matter what you're shooting!
