What rifle to get!!!!!!!

went through my gun cabinet a few times lately and i think i need a another rifle, why? do we really need reasons? but what i;m thinking is probably in the caliber of 7mm08/308/260 something on the side of a softer recoil and fairly accurate, now here's were i get all bound up, what brand to get, savage's shoot great but are ugly as sin, i really like the feel of a remington model 7 but alot of you guys hate remingtons, i love ruger pistols but have never owned a rifle of theirs (not even a 10/22), i do like browning but their outta my price range, and i never really gave winchesters a thought either.

so here;s what i want- almost carbine length, light, accurate, softer shootin, enough ommph for deer/boars/black bears/caribou.

any suggestions?

If I really liked the Rem model 7 that is what I would buy. I will not let anyones opinion by the DECIDING factor in a choice I have to make. I would listen to the other opinions pick up and handle every firearm I could and get the one that tickles my fancy. I do like Remingtons as I have three, also one Ruger, one Interarms, and one NEF. I almost bought a Sako TRG-S but changed my mind when I found my Sendero. I could not handle the Sako and that was part of my decision. I was going to get the 30-378 and who knows it could always be in my future. Luck with the gun you do get.

Since you've already ruled out Browning, which I like and own, I'd have to agree with the others and vote for Tikka. After reading so much about them, and handling some in the gun store, I'm pretty certain that my next rifle will be a Tikka. It's just a matter of time.

Have you ever thought about a CZ 550 FS. It is the full mannlicher stock, 20" barrel, either .243, or 308 with detachable magazine or 270 Win., 6.5 x 55 SE, 7 x 57, 7 x 64, 9.3 x 62, 30-06 Sprg. with fixed magazine. I think one of them in 308 with detachable mag or the 6.5 or 7 x 57 would be a nice little rifle. The 9.3x62 would be great for bears and boars with ballistics near that of a 35 whelen with heavier bullets.

If you like feel of the model seven then that is what I would buy.I have owned two model sevens(a stainless synthetic and a model 7fs) in 7mm-08 and both would shoot 1" or better groups with handloads which I consider very good for a lightweight factory rifle.

Take a look here at the lightning rifle. They aren't as big a name as Ruger, Remington, etc... but they are well made and won't break the bank either. Around here the stainless thumbhole version costs about $550. Alot of gun for the money. The Complete Rifleman has a great review on this line of rifles titled "Bargain Bolt Actions". Definetly worth reading and taking a look at.

Just one more opinion to add to your collection...lol

If you have the money to invest, get you one of the Tikka or Sako. However, if you are wanting to save some of that green to put toward some good glass, I would say go with a Savage (their "out-of-the-box" accuracy has made me a believer), but if you just can't stand that idea...Take bigbulls' advice and go and look at some of those Howas. Fine rifles (imo, some of the finest in mass production) and worth way more than they cost. I love the heavy barreled varminters. But like some have said above, get what FEELS good to YOU. If the rifle is not comfortable for you to handle, the name and the price tag doesn't mean a thing. It's not worth it.
