Need a Chamber brush for AR
I think I need a chamber brush. The ones I see for sale have a little extra brush for the lug area. Most have stainless bristles for that the lug area. I am kinda concerned about using stainless bristles on anything.
What kinda chamber brush do you guys use? Also, are those felt swabs useful for cleaning out the lug resesses or not needed? |

I'm not sure that one is really necessary. The carbon fouling is very easy to remove from the chromed parts. I have an Otis AR-15 assessory kit which is pretty handy with various picks- they have a little 'L' shapedone specifically for cleaning the barrel extenstion lugs- I wrap a patch around it and can clean out the lugs very easily. As far as the chamber goes, I use boar foam followed by pullinga few patches through the bore using the Otis system, I cannot see any crud left in the chamber when I'm done.

I am kinda worried about using foam. I figured it would mess up the gas tube.
The reason for the chamber brush is wolf ammo. I know, I know, don't say it. |

Crap, I never thought about the gas tube[:o]
I think I'll try blowing some compressed air through it before shooting it next to see if anything comes out. I would imagine that cleaning solvents tend to migrate into the gas tube anyhow? Maybe the worst that could happen is that it gets blown back into the receiver on the first shot? Not entirely sure- I just cleaned the barrel onmine for the first time the other night- Bushmaster reccomended putting 500+ rounds through before cleaning to polish the chrome lining. How sticky is the gunk from Wolf ammo? Is it hard to remove? |

Use an OTTIS kit. Also they have a spec. star for cleaning the lugs. think Brownell also carries them

I got mine from Midway, with a few extra brushes. The chamber on my RR seems to get dirty pretty easy. I use brake cleaner on the brush. IMO it dries pretty quick and clean. There is no way I would put SS brushes in my chamber. Tom.

You can get a surplusmilitary chamber brush or equivalent, cheaply, just about anywhere. Works great, last long time. Here are just a few places you can get them.
