RE: Ammo for 44 Mag. Rifle

I know 1 deer does not a judgement make, but I was so surprised when I got a 44 mag rifle this year and shot a deer at just under 50 yds. Didn't even flinch from a perfect lung shot. Blood trail sucked, was non-existent. the deer went about 60-70 yds. looked as if the bullet flew thru the deer without expanding much. 270 grain, hollowpoint from remington.

I shot a nice 8 pointer 170lbs+ out of a treestand in November. Probally a 60 + yard shot. I knew hit that dear because he was pushed back hard and jolted hard. He ran a good 75 yards and dropped dead. Bullet went straight through the chest and mushroomed perfectly in the elbow of front leg. Winchester 24 grain softpoint. I went out and picked up a few more boxes, they work good. Marlin 1894 w/ williams peep sight w/ fiber optic front sight.

I used handloads for My Smith 629 and Marlin .44 mag rifle, and shot a deer with each. 210 Sierra JHC, one shot kills with an exit wound on both. Same load for both weapons.
