I have a 15" 308 Encore pistol with a 2x7 T/C scope. I killed my first deer with a pistol with it, at about 15 yards! I haven't done much shooting past 50 yards with it yet because that's mostly what I shoot in the area I hunt.

As far as recoil goes, it isn't bad at all, I enjoy shooting it.

i have an encore pistol in 7-08, my biggest regret, i have a fixed power 4X leupold, next scope will be a 2X or varible, the longest shot i have taken with mine was just shy of 180 yrds, very accurate, and a blast to shoot, i didn't find the recoil to be that bad;), but im not bad recoil sensitive

but be ready for some funny looks when you tell your buddies your gonna hunt with your "pistol", my best friend calls mine a short rifle[:-];)

my self i like Burris 2-7 tho its imposable to use at any thing over 4 power , eye relief gets to short . i have managed to screw one of them up ,they fixed it ,took a little longer than i thought it should of .
i have had more problems with scope mounts than scopes ,but like is said 444 marlin is on the severe side of recoil . i have had the screws pull ,had to get it retaped with bigger screws . had a dove tail ring snap off ,all form recoil. i now use the scope mount that TC offers ,now thats a good mounting system.

What system is that. Is it the on that has the rings and mounts built togather.I forget what they call it

I had the Redfield Encore base with three ring. It held up on all three barrels. 7mm-08 and 35 Whelen. Used medium strength lock-tite on all screws and never had a problem.
