Do Not Do This
Yesterday itook my cheap old CVA Mag. Hunter to therange in order to shoot up some Clean Shot pellets thatwere bought in02 or 03:These were the round pellets. The pellets had never been reliable. We had to put about 5 grains of Pyrodex down the barrel first to get them to light. Shotthree roundsof two pelletswith five grains of Triple Seven for a booster. Shot a nice 2" inch group at 100 yards using 300 grain Hornady XTP bullets. The shooters on each side of me said the report was very loud.
Then i did something dumb. i loaded myfive grains of Triple Seven and three pellets, wrong answer. The recoil wasreally bad. Had not been hit by a scope in at least 40 years, until yesterday that is.The recoil was worse than the recoil from my 7 pound Siamese Mauser in .375 Alaskan. Got a cut on my nose and another one between my eyes. Luckily my glasses were not broken. |
RE: Do Not Do This
Glad you weren't hurt worse.
Now, who else wants to see a picture? :D |

RE: Do Not Do This
Glad you shared. Good reminder. I bet I'd have a few of those if not for 5" + of eye relief in my Aetec!
Thanks Tom |
RE: Do Not Do This
Bad one falcon but it has probably happened to most of us at one time or another. Around here at the range we call them an idiot cut.:D:D:D

RE: Do Not Do This
Glad to hear you aren't injured too badly and a tough man to show the picture. A friend of mine tried shooting my 7mm mag at the range last year. The gun slipped and he received a half moon gash between the eyes that required 4 stiches. He was a little miffed when my first concern was that he may have put my scope out. Sorry just a guy thing.

RE: Do Not Do This
I scoped myselfwith the first shot of my rifle, I was dissapointed, but I kept on shooting it,andheld the fore-arm tighter.
I learned to respect my gun that way. Turned out later that the scope was mounted too far back,so I had it adjusted, and no problems since! |

Those marks are called "the learning curve"

RE: Do Not Do This
Don't feel bad. I got hit twice during the same session one day with my 7mm. I was just too close to the scope, was creaping up on it and too far forward. The first time I was, "Well, that was dumb, I better move back a little." Then I got bit the second time and the blood really started to pour down my face. I did what any one would do though, and just wiped off the blood and kept shooting. It was a nice half-moon on my eyebrow, much worse than yours. It happens though, I hate to admit it, but if you shoot enough I suspect it'll eventually happen to anyone.
