Military rifles.....
I collect and shoot military rifles..I hunt with a k31 swiss....sweeeeet rifle and very accurate...what military guns do you all collect?

I like the AK, but I think the next thing I'm going to play with is a Mosin-Nagant. Looks like a pretty cheap way to have some fun.

I have 4 .303's, AK, SKS, Mosin-Nagant, and a german 98. Love shooting the military stuff.

I also have a K31 but haven't hunted with her yet. I will soon. I have one other rifle that I'd like to get a confirmed kill with and then it will be the Swiss's turn.

The Swedish mausers 94,38 and 96's are tough to beat in the accuracy dept.Never have recovered a bullet[160gr] from a moose or deer reguardless of the angle.Always two holes and leaking like a sieve! Harold

GARANDS, GARANDS, DID I MENTION GARANDS. According to General Patton it is the finest battle rifle of all times. I really like the M-14's also. I would also like to get one of the GEHWER(did I spell that right) in 8mm Mauser. I really like that one. It is almost as nice as my 03 Springfield's. You need all FOUR. Tom.

I have shot a mosin-nagant (7.62x54); the heaviest and by far the loudest gun I've fired. The weight reduces much of the recoil. I've also shot a M1 Carbine (soon to be in my hands).

i deer hunt with a belguim Mauser 98k...though it is sporterized with a new stock and leupold on top...barrel, action and trigger are all original...though looked to been slightly milled down to remove some battle scars...its chambered in 3006...thats where i get my name from:D
it was the first gun i ever bought and paid for myself..i was 13. saved my grass cuttin money all summer. threw on a scope laying around...next summer i saved up for the leupold... the k31 is a sweet rifle. the one i shot was accurate as heck. really liked the striaght throw bolt too... |

Total, 19 military rifles. The only one I ever hunted with was the Norwegian Krag. It was deadly on New Mexico mule deer! That K-31 is an excellent rifle. I may get one some day! |

98/22 chech mauser, 6.5 carcano, 03-a3,model12. Mauser has a wear ring on the muzzle from the bayonet. No personal kills the 03' shoots very nicely though .

In my current collection there are approximately 30 military rifles: Swiss K-31s Swedish M96s Swdish M41B Swedish 94/14 carbine M1 garand 4 different models of Mosin Nagant US Model 03A3 K98s 3 different models of enfields Czech 98/22, 98/29, VZ-24 M95 Steyr-Mannlicher Yugo M48 SKS It took me awhile to warm up to the K-31s but the more I shoot them, the more I like them. That K-31 is an excellent rifle. I may get one some day! |

Contrary to popular opinion in this country, the Soviet 7.62X39mm isNOT a Russian copy of the German development. The Russianswere working on assault rifles betweenWWI and WWII, Simonov (designer of the SKS) having developed oneof his own that used the 6.5X50mm Arisaka round - it was the shortest, lightest cartridge he could find at the time. They developed the 7.62X39mmround because the 7.62X25mm Tokarev pistol round, used by millions of Soviet assault troops in the PPSh-series of submachine guns, was not powerful enough for battelfield use. (Worse than our .30 Carbine round!!) After they designed the 7.62X39mm sometime in 1943, it was first used in Simonov'sSKS after WWII ended. But the SKS is not a true assault rifle-the StG44 and AK 47 are! |

I've only used two milsurps in my guns.....a model of 1917 Enfield (in
.375 H&H) and a whole bunch of Mausers.....in .220 Swift, 6MM Remington, .257 Roberts, 6.5 X 55 Swede, 7 X 57, .25-06, .280 Rem, 30-06, .35 Whelen, 9.3 X 62 and coming up now.....(drum roll) .416 Ruger on a Persian. |

I like to collect military firearms.I will (and do:D) shoot them, some I have only shot once and then put them away for the next generations, some I shoot often. It depends on the firearm and how rare it is or how it's condition is that determines whether I shoot it often or not, but I like to shoot them all at least once. Idon't hunt with any, however I do have a few sporterized 03A3's and aMauser that I havehunted with.
Ilike to keep my military firearms as original as possible and will only sporterize if they are beyond saving. |
