RE: thumbhole or traditional?

I really like my thumbhole. More stable, looks good, handles good. The only thing I don't really like is trying to operate the safety, it has a tang safety so it is a little goofy.

There are 2 ways I see that you are hunting-the first is with hammer already cocked or safety off-need I say more about the safety implications of that? The other way is for you to not grasp the rifle in a normal carrying manner just so you can manipulate hammer or safety ,THEN totally regrasp rifle in shooting form to fire. You aren't making a lot of sense or just being unsafe!

Encore thumbhole's are the berrie's. Are you guys saying you do not have enough dexterity to cock a hammer. I do not even need the extension. Tom.

Hammer already cocked? I do not think so. I shoot several rifles with Creedmore sights-so I guess I spend alot of time with thumb control. That must be why I do not think about it, I just do it. I can not imagine it taking more than a mili-second to place my thumb in a shooting position. Regardless of where that is. Asfar as carrying is concerned-I carry my rifle in my off-trigger hand, and around the forearm.

I guess I am just saying that I do not follow your logic. I meant no disrespect. And I am sorry if you took it that way. I just shoot alot, and do not give it any consideration. I just do it. Tom.

i've never held a thumbhole stock so i can't speak for them. i have large hands, so i'm sure they will suck for me. i do love the T/C Encore/ProHunter stocks. i dunno if they have a different name than the regular traditional style. i just love the low cut pistol grip area, it feels so much more natural than the traditional stocks.

I also have a thumbhole stock on my Encore. And I don't see how it inconveniences me in one way.

I don't need a hammer extension or anything. One thing the recoil pad on the Thompsons are very stiff and not very comfortable while shooting.
