Another scope question

Hey all been awhile since my last post thought I would stop in and ask a question.
My eyesight is about 50/50 uncorreted, and 20/20 with my specs on but i have a terrible time seeing through my 336 sights. I know the 30-30 is a small gun but a scope would really help me out. What would you recomend for a brush gun scope?

Thanks Bill

RE: Another scope question

I think a Weaver K2.5 or K4 would look nice on a 336

Exactly what he said. A low fixed power scope of 2x-2.5x would be perfect.

I have a 1.5x4.5 bushnell banner on my 336 .30-.30 and it works very well. Nothing fancy about the scope, but solid, get around 1.5-2" groups at 100 yards, and I bought the scope for around $80 new about 5 years ago.

Something in 2-7X32 this is low enough for very close range and easily enough for a 150-175 yard shot with a 30-30. I like the Leupold VX-II, but a good scope for the money is the Bushnell 3200. This scope is also marked as a Browning and they are on closeout at $139 through Natchez Shooters Supply.

I guess I'm one of those people who would like to see everyone, including me save a little money. If you're not in a REAL big hurry, check some of your local gun dealers for used scopes. See if they would give you a rasonable guarantee with it. Gun shows are another good place, at least they are here in Western PA., as well as some of the gun periodicals and possibly e-Bay. Some of those older Weaver scopes mentioned before are fairly ready and available at reduced cost if you keep your eyes open.
Good luck...........

Since you are on a budget, what about a fixed power scope? Likea 4x Bushnell or weaver. They should be less expensive than variable and good for out to 100 yards or so.

RE: Another scope question

Hey all I decided to go with the Leupold 2-7x33mm With Simmonsrings and weaver base. I love it! Just mounted it today but have not bore sited it. I was killing tin cans at 25 yards, but I backed off to 40 and cant hit a 2 sq ft box. I know I will have to keepworking it. But I'm in love with my Leupold!

My son hunts with a 30-30 and we put a 4x weaver on it. It works great. A less expensive scope is the 4x Bushnell which I have on my ML. Works great in the bush and very inexpensive.

While i agree that a fixed scopemay be the best fit for a 30/30 I also think you simply can't go wrong with the one you bought as it will work just fine. The 2x7will allow you some wiggle room at the range and in the future if you ever deciede to add to your gun collection.

I think you did just dandy the VXII is a nice scope for under 200 smacks. Re:the mounts I personally would have opted for something a little more robust, along the lines of Leuy's or Warne but hey I understand the need to keep the budget in line as well. Best of luck
