I was chronographing loads today and got a MV of 1799 fps with UMC 125 grain 357 mags from my 6" barrel ruger GP100. I was curious if anyone else has gotten this kind of velocity with this ammo??

You must be shooting some stiff loads of fast powderin order to get a 125 grainer to go that fast...I've seen the 110's go that fast but never a 125..be careful and take a "GOOD" look at the straps and other metal parts..

I chronographed (Chrony) some 200-grain .30/40 Krag handloads one morning. These were hot loads for a Ruger No. 3, and Iwas expecting good velocity from them, but imagine my surprise when they averaged 2880 FPS at 10' from the muzzle!

So I repeated the test four hours later that same day, with rounds from the same box. The velocity this time averaged over 200 FPS lower-almost exactly where I had expected it to be.

I recommend that you re-shoot this test under different lighting conditions.
