Savage 17 HMR
Got a new toy yesterday. I really like it, but it came with a Simmons 3x9x40scope. I've had people say get rid of it there junk, and I got a couple of buddies who say it will do fine since there is no recoil. I'm gonna replace it as soon as I get some hush money momma don't know about.:D

RE: Savage 17 HMR
That's a pretty slick looking rig....Let us know how it shoots...
I'd give the Simmons scope a try, as long it is already mounted..It may work fine, and if you don't like it you can always replace it later... |
RE: Savage 17 HMR
I had no problems with my 3-9x40 8-point sope. It also came on my Savage .17 HMR. The 17 with the heavey barrel has no recoil. SO there is not much to move the scope around. I should have thought of that before I bought the 4-12x40 8-point for my .223 . It was crap.

Congrats on the purchase, I have pretty much the same rig except not thumbhole, I dont mind the simmons. But them BSA Sweet 17's sure look tempting.

RE: Savage 17 HMR
Yep same here. Mine is the exact same gun cept it has a plain wood stock. You are really gonna love that thing. I believe if ya looked in the dictionary under tack driver it would have a 93 Savage pictured...lol.

RE: Savage 17 HMR
If you really plan on using it for some 100+ varmint kills, get a little better scope. You don't need to break the bank either. A 8-32 BSA platinum for a $100 is the most I would spend.
In fact, if you want one, let me know. I have a used one that I would part with. |
