Sub-MOA Rifles

How many people actually have a rifle that shoots Sub MOA? IM not talking about the $1500 or $3000 custom rifles. Im talking a factory rifle for under $800 that will consistantly shoot under 1in.

The only rifle I have that does it is a winchester shadow in 270 wsm , 3/4 inch groups at 100 yards

I paid $399 for it , and its stainless , Ive paid lots more for other guns that were half as accurate , a cz and tikka , but they were good values also IMO

Remington ADL .243shoots .5 - .75" with Federal 100 grain soft points (blue box). $288

Remington 30-06 will shoot under an inch with three different factory loads. $350

Winchester M70 .270 consistantly shoots .75 1" with 130 grain corelokts. Passed down from grandfather.

Remington 700 338 ultra mag will shoot right at 1" with Remington 250 grain Swift a-frames. $600

Remington 700 ADL 25-06, can shoot consistently under 1" but the right load and a steady rest will put it under 1/2" with hunting loads :). My other 2 centerfires are not under $800 :D

RE: Sub-MOA Rifles

I did it a few times with my remington 700 ADL 30-06. I think the question is more of the ammo and shooter than the rifle with a sub MOA achievement. I now own a savage, winchester mod 70, remington mod 700, and NEF and they all appear to be if not capable, close to capable of sub MOA. I am not consistently capable of MOA however. EJ

RE: Sub-MOA Rifles

I only have 1 rifle i know will shoot Sub-MOA all day long. The rest group between 1in and 2in all day. I have some that will get Sub-MOA a few times but not consistantly. Actually the one i have that shoots the best will stay under 1in at 200 yards. Im am capable of shooting under 1in consistantly but what im shooting depends on how long i can keep my groups like that. Some of my bigger rifles i can only keep good groups for 10 shots or so but smaller rifles i can until i get tired of shooting.

I have 4 SubMOA guns. Only one is stock out of the box however. I had to do work on them to get them to shoot well, and significant load development.

One is a 1980 model heavy varmit edition 7mm-08 700BDL, This is stock as you can get, and I wouldn't hesitate to prove it can shoot subMOA 4 groups out of 5. And I got it from an estate sale for only $250. What a deal

I have only one that will. Winchester M70 Heavy Varmit in .308. When I first got it it shot just a slighly ragged hole. Very slightly. Now it has opened up a lot more.

RE: Sub-MOA Rifles

Every rifle that I have shoots under MOA, or I don't keep them. that being said none of them are as they came from the factory save one and thats a Browning Abolt in 280.A short list of Sub MOA in my cabinet:
1. 338 win mag Rem. 700 = .75-1 MOA
2. 6.5-284 rem 700 custom = .5 MOA
3. 221 FB rem 700 custom= .5 MOa
4. 223 Rem 700 VS= .5 MOa
5. 22-250 cooper Varminter = sub .5 MOA
6. 270 wsm Model 70 winchester (my boys now) = .75-1 MOA
7. 6BR rem 700 custom. = .5 moa at worst

All of them have at the very least had a bedding job and trigger job. some have had extensive smith work done.

Interestingly, I've seen a lot of 300 RUM shot at our range. It seems that every one of them shoot excellent. I've seen remington 700's, Browning Abolts, and Savages and they all shoot well. It makes me wonder if the RUM Cartridge is inheritly accurate.
