Unless the origional stock is a beat up terd, i'd rather pay a gunsmith to fix it, than sink money into a different stock...

I've fixed a lot of them, and they can be easilyrepaired tobetter than new...

Well, it certainly is NOT going to kick any more than a 7mm Remington Magnum, which kicks a lot like the .30/'06.......

Oh, they kickFAR more than a .30-06!

my brother and dad both have a 270 weatherby mag and their great. the kick isn't bad. and for the shells its cheaper to reload them. we use 215 primers, 69 grains of IMR 4831 powder, witha 130 grain sierra boattail buller. the gun shoots 2 ins high at 100, 1 ins high at 200, dead on at 300, and about 2 ins low at 400.

It will be on par with the new 270 WSM. Recoil should be about like a hot loaded 30-06 with heavy bullets. I would get it fixed just because it came from Grandpa. However thats just me and that don't mean much to some. You will gain 200-300 fps over the 270 Winchester. Both guns are useful for the same kind of hunting IMO.

Not the ones that I have fired.

The recoil of many, many of the smaller magnums is waaay over-rated IMHO.
With even modest recoil management, they are no big deal unless there is psychological pre-disposition or physiological deterioration.

My 270 WSM does not kick any more than my regular 270 but thats because it weighs 8.75 lbs without optics. (Heavy Barrel Savage.)
