Simple Barrel Change- .308 to .243??
 

Is it a easy barrel swap? The bolt face and everything should still be the same correct? All the talk about CZ's in the other forum got me looking for one, and I found an awesome deal on the Varmint kevlar version in .308, but I really want one in .243, thought it might be a easy barrel change since they aren't available in .243.

Relatively speaking it is an easy swap. You would need a competant Gunsmith to do it though. Head space must be correct.

You don't like the recoil of the .308? Is that why you're switching?

You made a great choice going with CZ. I love there rifles now that i bought one. Why do you need a 243? If a 308 is too much why not just get it in 22-250?

It is very easy to change barrels assuming you or your local smith has tooling for task. This entails threading,chambering,headspacing,and installation of new barrel after removal of factory barrel.

You'd be further ahead to buy another brand in the caliber you want.

From the CZ's that i have handled, they seem OK. I can't understand what all the rave is. They definately aren't of the highest quality.

They seem to shoot good, but just about any rifle should. Especially if you reload.

Well I logged on GunBroker last night to buy it and it was sold.[:@]I waited a little too long.

The .308 doesn't kick too much or anything, but I already have one and I want a great little varmint/deer rifle and the .243 AI is perfect. And they wanted $650 for the CZ with a Bushnell 4200 6-24x40 scope on it.

That sucks you missed out on the deal. I was tossing around the idea of getting a Remington SPS Varmint in 243 and having the barrel cut down to 22" and dipped in camo (natural gear) with a preferred scope on it for my new coyote gun.

If they don't chamber the 243 I would get a tikka in 243 I have shot a couple of these in 243 and know they will shoot.Or if you want to save a little money there is the remington in the sps or now they have the varmit sps in 243.I wouldn't mind haveing one of them myself.
I figure you reload since you said 243 AI??
You can reload the 308 with 110,125 or 130 gr bullets,I haven't shot the 110 bullets in my 308 but have shot the 125 and 130's and they shoot very good.

I think the cz's really look good ,if I was going to get one I think I would choose the 6.5x 55 since they don't have it in 260 cal either.
