what is your opinion on the 35. remington for deer

Great for deer, as long as you keep your shots within the capability of the gun, I would say inside of 150 yds.

I have Marlin 336 in the .35 Remington,my first deer gun,got it about 30 years ago! Took a few deer with it,all only one shot but they do run even with a well placed shot. Ammo is easy to get and not to costly,not a bad caliber to start hunting with...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

an excellent round out to 150yds with 200gr. bullets. that it drops like a rock ammo is cheap around $13.00- $15.00 for a box.

I know that the 35 remington is a great round for a 14&quot; contender barrel. It works very well for deer out to 150-200 yards.

I have a 336CS chambered in 35 Rem. This was the 1st year that I had to take more than 1 shot at a deer with it, she was 9 for 9 prior on 1 shot kills. I took an offhand, downhill 85 or so yd shot at a running doe the last day of the season here in NY. The deer turned away from the group of does and ran to about 130 yds away and stood by a tree shaking her head. I dropped my pack got a rest on a tree put the 9 power on her holding about mid body and let the 2nd one loose. Both lungs jelly and she ran about 110 yds before piling up on a dead run, the skid mark in the snow was about 35-40 yards long and sshe slid under a pile of slash. I love the 35 remington (shooting anything other than remington ammo) btw the 1 shot had hit the deer in the neck along the right side, gave her a Groucho Marx style part in her hair and cut into her neck about 3/4&quot; but it was just enough to give me the time needed for the rested 2nd shot. I am currently building a 35 Whelen on a Mauser 98 large ring action so it looks like my son will be getting my 336 and I will hunt with the Whelen.........What did you whale on today?

I also have a Marlin .35 Rem. I got it in 1968 and have never needed another rifle for N.Y. whitetails since. This rifle has taken over 20 whitetails and all of them were one shot kills and all dropped at the shot. Never had to track a whitetail shot with my .35. Here in N.Y. I have never had a shot past 125 yds.

I've had my 336C .35 Rem for almost 30 years. My son used it this year, and took his first two deer. Good, strong caliber out to 150, maybe 200 yds. Recoil is no problem. Ammo is cheap. They say it will work fine for larger game - elk, maybe moose, up to 150 yds. My criticism : ammo only available in core-lokt; I have had trouble trailing deer before - I believe the core-lokt bullet expands too slow to do damage to create the blood trail I'd like for whitetail. However, I seem to be the only one who has that complaint. Despite that complaint, I definitely endorse it
