Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
Hey guys.. I'm looking at getting a 10/22 and was wondering what y'all recommend. I plan on just plinking andshooting small game like coons and possums. I see on Ruger's website that they have Carbine, Sporter, All-Weather, Compact, and Target models. I don't want to buy a gun and then not like it..Thanks...

You can't go wrong with any of them.

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
I would reccomend you get standard model. If you decide to upgrade componets later, you'll have less initial cost.

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
You should look for the model in .22 WMR, they don't make it anymore, but it sounds like a sweet gun.

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
You really cant go wrong with any 10/22 but i have to agree with Younggun and say find a rifle in 22 WMR.

Brush,
I'd pay the extra $30 and get the 10/22 deluxe model. The checkered forend is really nice to grip, especially in slick conditions. Plus the deluxe just looks that much nicer. I've had mine 23 years and taken it through hell and it has always performed. Great gun. KEJ |
RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
The reciever is the same regardless of which one. The stocks and bbls are all that really differ. If you're to leave it as is go with the nicer Walnut stocked delux. Otherwise the regular std moel will suffice. Be carefulthough. They can become quite the addictive little gun. What began as one has grown to 5 now with 3 more stocks waiting to be built up and at least 3 more planned after that. :)

if your planning on customizing it go for the cheapest model and then spend the rest of the money on accesories.

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
Thanks for the feedback guys... I think I'll just got with the Standard or Deluxe..

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
You should also look at the "Walmart Special"...It has a longer stainless barrel
(24 inches if I remember right) which makes it feel more like a gun than a toy... |
RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
I like this one real well. I put it together a couple of months ago. It shoots around 1/2 inch at 50 yards with a standard contour barrel. I have not experimented with diffrent loads yet. I found 5,000 rounds of Remington 22LR ammo cheap, and 1/2 inch at 50 yards is good enough for me. The thumbhole has a great feel, and with the standard barrel it is not very heavy. I have $500 in the rifle-with the upgraded trigger, and some other options(GM barrel also). Tom.

To YoungGun: If you think $500 is too much for a 22 then I better not post a picture of my Kimber Super America. I actually thought $500 was a good price. That included the action, stock, barrel, trigger, and other internal parts. I priced them separately and it was over $500. I also have a Leupold 4X12 on top of the Ruger. So now I have over $800 in the rig. Oh well. Tom.

RE: Which Ruger 10/22 Model?
Yeah.. $500 doesn't sound like an unreasonable or shocking amount to put into a gun... Sounds like the "Wal-Mart Special" is nice with it's longer barrel. But where can I pick one up at without going to Wal-Mart or ordering from Ruger themselves? I like to stay away fromWally as much as I can....

Youngs not old enough to appreciate fine guns, fine women and expensive refreshments...
I have a Remington 541-T, curley maple blond stock, 3x9x33 Leupold, parallex adjusted to 75 yards and Millet rings....I'll just say that I have more than $800 in it, and I absolutely love it...My first .22 was a Remington 552 Speedmaster...I bought it new when I was 16 (1971) from a hardware store...I shot it so much I had to replace the trigger and sear a few years back...Good gun, but itisn't the tack driver the 541 is...The way I figure, I get to use it a few years and then maybe one of my grandsons will appreciate it...:D |

Go ahead, this is opening a whole new world for me, never knew there was such a thing that could truly be called, "a fine rimfire", but go ahead, sorry about the fuss, I understand the whole customizing .22's thing, in fact, I'm starting to enjoy seeing all these pics, C'mon, post the Super America!!!!! |
