RE: Stoeger Pistols

They used to be made by beretta and are a rotating barrel instead of pivoting barrel. They are usually very accurate and was dropped by beretta because of various reasons.

Well Beretta is at it again. They are making them now. I understand they are made with Beretta parts over in Turkey. I saw one at the gun NRA show here in St. Louis. Nice gun.

I know I resurrected an old topic. I too am considering purchasing a Stoeger Cougar in 9mm and would like owners input since this topic was touched last.

Good?
Bad?
Indifferent?

I would appreciate replies and thanks!!!

Check to see if you have any pistol/gun clubs in your area. Ask if anyone there has the model as you are interested in tying it out (offer to pay for the ammo and a little extra for the cleaning supplies). Some gun stores also rent firearms to be tried out at their store range. Fire the gun to see if you like it. If you are new to handguns, you really won't have a basis on which to say if it is or is not the handgun for you. Proper grip and form are very important.

Personally, I don't care for the Cougar model. One of the things I do not like is the serations are too far forward on the slide. I also do not care for the high position of the safety on the slide. I have quite a bit of experience and professional training - I prefer no manual safeties for a defensive firearm. If you are interested in the rotating barrel, take a look at the Beretta Px4 Storm.

The cougar is the metal version of the PX-4.
