I have a Vanguard chambered in 7mm Rem. Mag. and like the gun alot. My only complaint is that it kicks like a mule. I keep forgeting to get a brake put on it before hunting season. The gun really puts the deer down hard and keeps good groups at the range (If I don't flinch).

If the Winchester Model 70 you're referring to is the Black Shadow; I'd definitely take the Vanguard. Which Rem 700 are you comparing these too? For the money, I think the Vanguard is the best value.

Good choice, I think the Howa 1500/Vanguard/S&W 1500 and Mossberg 1500 are/were the sleepers of the bolt action rifle world. I have 6 Rem 700's and 2 Sakos and I like them but I've owned three Howas and they are very good.Still have one of them.Compare the Vanguard to a Sako L61R,AIII or AV someday and you'll be surprised at how similiar they are. The firing pin assembly removes from the bolt the same way as the Sako. The extractor is similiar.Even the stocks will interchange with a bit of bedding around the bottom metal and sometimes the tang, depending on how old the Sako is.All in all a great rifle. If I were in the market for a brand new rifle I'd get one before I'd get a Remington.
