Anyone shoot a FN Rifle?
I have no experience with this brand before. I have been looking for a Winchester/US repeating arms Stealth in a .308 model with no luck. But some shops said this FN Special Police is about the same thing but better. It appears to have a Winchester 70 type action with a mauser claw type bolt. Only thing I didn't like was the 100 dollar more price tag and parkerizing was less than desirable. I could see bare metal on the crown due to the bad job.

RE: Anyone shoot a FN Rifle?
Yeah, I shoot an F***N' rifle, but only when it misses, lol...
Just kidding, I don't have any experience with the FN, but the way you describe it, it has the Mod. 70 Pre-64 claw extractor, which is one of the greatest advantages the pre-64 has over the post 64 models. I'd say go to something like snipercountry.com or benchrest.com or something like that and ask them there, this board won't help you much when you're talking about specific target rifles, it's all hunting here for the most part. Screw the 10 ring, keep them in the zero!!! |

Not to split hairs but the Pre-64 Win 70 has a Mauser 98 style claw extractor not the other way around.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>
Most mauser military rifles have a bare unblued crown- this is normal and often the way they were made, though I'm not sure about commercial rifles. If the action is well bedded it should shoot like a champ, though I would check the feed from the magazine to make sure it doesn't scratch your cases which will take a little bit of polishing to fix. Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms... who's bringing the chips? |
