rust prevention
I have a remington 870 with the black metal coating and synthetic stock, it is giving me a lot more problems then any other gun i own. It gets a rusty film on the surface of the reciever. it isn't pitting or rusting it just seems like the black coating from the factory isn't as good as a blued surface to prevent rust.
If I clean it and oil it the rust film goes away for a little while but I'm looking for a better solution to protect it. |
RE: rust prevention
I have that same goop on my vent rip but haven't gotten around to making a post yet.

RE: rust prevention
After I clean them, I spray a liberal coat of G-96 Gun Treatment on all of my firearms before I put them away. It works very well against rust.
I have been using the stuff for years and years. |

Sheath.
If you are storing it for more than a few weeks, give it a light coating of R.I.G. |
RE: rust prevention
You can also purchase a silicone impregnated cloth. Birchwood Casey has them. You can pick them up at just about every gunshop and academy carries them. Give your gun a good wipedown with it and rust shouldn't form.

I was looking into the Inhibitor system and wondering if anyone has any feedback using it.

RE: rust prevention
Something that I use is Bore Butter which is used to lube my ML bullets. After I clean my guns, (as per normal with a good gun cleaner and oil), I polish the entire gun with it (not thick coat but work it in). It has seemed to keep the rust down.
