RE: Rear window gun rack
Just a thought here but ahhh, local gun shop.;) Maybe one of the larger national/mail-order compnaies (Midway, cabelas) maybe even just do a search on Google. Shouldn't be that difficult to find one.

RE: Rear window gun rack
Are you sure they are legal where you live. I used to see them all the time in Ohio when I was growing up. I Never see them now, but I live in MI now so I don't know if they changed the OH laws. I don't think you can have them in MI because of the gun laws.

RE: Rear window gun rack
One thing to carry a gun like that but I wouldn't leave it there unattended. Good way to get ripped off.
|
RE: Rear window gun rack
I'm pretty sure they are still legal here in PA.,but I see a lot less of them than I used to. Some good ideas have already been given for running one down.

RE: Rear window gun rack
Haven't seen the rear window racks for a while.Cabela's and others sell the cloth gun racks you strap to the back of your seat, but that's all I'm aware of.

RE: Rear window gun rack
do you have a wal-mart near by???
|
RE: Rear window gun rack
I dont think they are legal in PA. We got in trouble because we did not have our shotguns in cases whyle transporting them 2 miles up a dirt road to the field we were hunting in. He didnt give us a fine for it but made sure we knew that they must be in cases to be in a moving vehicle. Ive never had a problem before that about not having thtem in a case.

RE: Rear window gun rack
thay had them in the last cabelas catalog i got.
|
RE: Rear window gun rack
basspro probably has them. we have a basspro "dealer" here andhe carries those things. it's a walmart sized place but it's not an actual bass pro shop though he sells basically anything from the catalog, even things like hats and tshirts with their logo,if that makes sense.

RE: Rear window gun rack
Dude, not to be rude but these guys are right. You can find them at bass pro, midway, cabellas, walmart, just go on google and search truck window gun rack and their all over.

RE: Rear window gun rack
Id check the laws before getting into trouble. they are legal here i know

RE: Rear window gun rack
Retaks...Somebody is gonna have to show me in black and white where it is illegal to transport a firearm in a vehicle without it being in a case here in PA. I never heard of such a thing. Sounds to me like a deputy who was trying to make himself out to be a big man. It's definitely illegal to have a shell in the chamber or magazine when in a vehicle, but someone is just flat going to have to show me in "the book" where that particular statement lies. I don't believe it.

RE: Rear window gun rack
i believe PA has a '3 step law' meaning it must take 3 steps to use the firearm. If you have the guns in the back window, the ammo must be seperate and locked. this gives you the 3 steps.
1 unlock ammo 2 open case/glovebox. 3 load firearm dont quote me on this |
RE: Rear window gun rack
They are leagal in Pa. But I'm no big fan of window racks. Buy a window rack and put your fishing rod or levels in them if your a carpenter but IMHO if traveling on PUBLIC roads one is better off not advertising.

RE: Rear window gun rack
i like the aspects of the behind the seat style ones. good use of space and concelment
|
RE: Rear window gun rack
Even if it's legal where you live, it's not a good idea. Even with no weapon in the rack, it advertises to criminals that you might have a handgun stashed in there somewhere. I don't display anything on my vehicle that indicates there might be a firearm inside. Not even an NRA sticker, criminals look for stuff just like that, it's better to look like the rest of the herd.

RE: Rear window gun rack
I have an overhead rack in my F-250.It is O.K. as long as you don't forget about it and break your head.:eek:It is sorta out of the way and does not take up a lot of space.

RE: Rear window gun rack
Illegal or not it probably isn't the best idea to display your hardware like that, what do you have to gain for all the hassle it will cause?
I know that in Ontario we can travel with an uncased, unloaded gun in a vehicle with a licensed driver (so its under their care and control, the gun can't be left unsupervised) but if I tried it I'd be pulled over by SWAT by gunpoint, we gun owners know the gun laws better than the cops do, I imagine that even if its within your rights and your not breaking any laws you will still create big headaches for yourself, and may get your guns stolen. |
RE: Rear window gun rack
Guys, he wasn't asking whether it was a good idea to have/use a gun rack. He just asked where to get one.
Myself, I got one whento use when I need it, such as driving around on our land, going camping or hunting. I got one from Academy, whichhas adjustable fingers that go under the plastic molding at the top & bottom of the rear window. This thing sucks though, it doesn't stay up when going over anything resembling a bump in the road. Shotgun then clatters onto back seat... I'm still looking around for a better-designed rack -- |
